Red Rebel in Current Events

We recruited our first speaker for our first Our Eldest Brother event. Sean Rayland-Boubar. We want positive male role models to come speak to our youth. We have the drug, gang, and sex trafficking industry being pushed on them. We want to show them that there is another way. It was this man’s story that inspired us to make the event.

My vision is to have some speakers come talk to our youth. I am very aware of these kids’ attention spans, so we will break it up with some activities. I want kids who dance and sing to come and show their peers how to dance and sing. I also want elders and knowledge-keepers to have activities and lessons for the youth. Social entrepreneurs like Red Rebel Armour can set up booths to promote their merchandise. The boxing gym we go to can also have a little corner. I’ll try and get some indigenous celebrities to record a message that we can play to the audience.

My mind has gone through it this week. My coordinator was at 10% when we started this week. I operated at 190% to get us all through. We had 99 problems and then we had to restructure our entire program. Also while balancing learning a song with our participants to showcase at a Round Dance next week. Today I crashed so hard when I got home. I barely made it to my bed. That nap is going to ruin my sleep tonight but what else can I do?

I don’t even know what my life is outside of work right now. Next weekend is a 4-day weekend and it cannot come fast enough. On the 26th, I booked a thermal spa for my team. We are taking our elder. I can’t wait for that as well.

I have to draft something for my coordinator so he can advocate for me to get a raise. I’ll have that for him by Monday. My brain is so spent today. It’s running on fumes.
