The weekend… happened. It was okay. Spent Friday with Hermia and Brad and made them watch Muppet Treasure Island. Spent Saturday evening with Hermia and we rekindled the physical aspects of our relationship as well as did some good walking and cooking. Spent Sunday with Brad and Hermia and Nana; checking in with Nana and discussing Back to School as well as Schedules.

Sunday evening, I received an e-mail from the Sherlock Holmes show. They invited me to do a call back for two specific characters. I looked at my calendar and realized… my conflicts were really NOT up to date! I have a schedule conflict with Wednesday’s call backs and the first Saturday performance. So, I responded to their invitation by politely declining due to the conflicts as it wouldn’t be fair to compete for a role that I knew I would have to bow out of for a performance. After sending that e-mail, I received a different e-mail from the theater doing Beauty and the Beast offering me the parts of “D’arque, Baker, and Ensemble”. Now for that show I have no conflicts (or at least none that weren’t communicated). And… I’m torn on it. I mean… part of me is “harumph, such small roles!” but the other part of me is thinking “D’ARQUE in the original film was Tony Jay. One of the greatest voice actors of his generation!” While I was contemplating my emotions on this role… the Sherlock people got back to me. They were asking if I would accept the roles if they gave me an understudy who could do the part on the day I was unavailable. Waiving the Callback entirely. I have yet to get back to either production.

On one hand: A play. Something I have done much of in my return to Theater. But a play willing to go out of their way to accommodate me.
On the other: A musical. Something I’ve done only once in my return to Theater. But a musical where my contribution will be mostly ensemble.
At this point, I am leaning more towards Beauty and the Beast due to scheduling and the fact that it is a musical. DEFINITELY curious what people’s opinions may be!

Otherwise? I contemplate my work day. I understand how little what I do means to anyone. I prosecute shoplifters and speeders and trespassers. So, the hardened criminals don’t care… the majority of the office doesn’t care… the only people that do care are the entitled people who make the work emotionally draining. As a for instance: guy gets a traffic citation. Thinks, “Fuck you, I’m not paying.” Doesn’t realize that if he doesn’t pay and doesn’t come to court… he’ll be found guilty by default and still owe on the ticket. If he doesn’t pay the ticket, his license may get suspended for failure to meet financial obligations. Now he’s on my phone screaming at me as if I did this to him personally and demanding I “fix the fucking issue immediately!” Dude? Even if I wanted to I could not. You thumbed your nose at the Courts, the Courts acted in response, and the DOT did what they do. At no point was I ever involved in your case. In order for anything to be done now, you would have to speak directly to/with a judge. Again… not me.

So, honestly… I’m feeling pretty insignificant. In the midst of making this decision which… I think missing a performance as an actor is abysmal. But they are willing to accommodate me and have offered me the role of the main Antagonist. But the other show has no schedule conflicts. But offered me smaller roles, though I do consider D’ARQUE to be one of the primary antagonists for the show.
