She Finally Arrived! in These Foolish Things

The aftermath of my previous entry:

C. finally got out of the meeting that lasted until nearly 8pm and arrived at The Treehouse at nearly 8:30. Poor thing was tired and hungry so we brought her bags upstairs to my place, dropped them off and then we walked through the park and over to the tavern and got a late snack and a drink and a good, good catch-up chat.

[Complicated Disaster] knows the place - we went there three nights in a row during his visit. Ha!

C. was very, very apologetic and it was obviously not her fault that the review lasted much longer than scheduled. I wasn’t upset at her at all. I just felt badly for her because even though the meeting finally ended, there is always much more work to be done once a customer meeting is over. Bottom line is, the customer was writing orders for millions of dollars worth of merchandise so what can you do? This is why we work, right?

But the customer was so fucking rude to keep everyone three hours after the end of the business day. Some people had to catch flights and others needed to meet friends and family (ahem).

Regardless, I’m so happy she was able to make it here and we ended up having a fantastic visit and catch-up. We talked until nearly midnight - just catching up with life, friends, work, etc.

It was kind of a shame that we didn’t have the opportunity to have a semi-wild night on the town like we were thinking the evening might be. We’ve had some crazy girls nights out in various places all over the world - recalling some wildness in Shanghai, Vegas, Phoenix, Orlando (ha!) and even here in [my city]. C. is absolutely a fantastic wing woman, always helping me get into trouble! C. is trouble-adjacent. Though happily married for ~20 years, she definitely knows how to flirt her way into some possibly questionable activity. It doesn’t hurt that we are both redheads and often get mistaken for each other (we look like sisters).

And then this morning she got to see The Treehouse in all her glory in the daylight. We got to sleep in a bit, I made us lattes and then we walked the park and had even more good talks. C. is the consummate salesperson and our chatter was a mile a minute, but we got a lot out!! Ha!

We did end up doing. little bit of company bashing for a bit, but neither one of us really wanted to go down that road. Sometimes it’s just too hard not to with the fact that she and I have so many work experiences in common.

And then it was time for her to leave for the airport and time for me to get back on my follow-ups with companies.

All in all a good visit. Kinda like pre-covid. And pre-cancer. And pre-carotid.

No, life will never be the same, but glimpses of those past lives can be comforting.

And then we move on to better things.

Love,
GS

Sounds like you made the most of the time you did have! Crazy that the meeting went so late.
