I got out of bed to fire up the computer, to look for youtubes. It’s cold enough for socks, an extra sweatshirt and a stocking cap. I left Annie’ Proulx’s Wyoming stories in my bed. They make me feel like me, like here, like places wilder and people both tougher and more vulnerable.

I write in sentences. I skip the work. I end up with nothing. But still the same, it’s in my head, in my heart if I had one, in the time that passes, that chases round the moon poles month to month, piling up the years, leaving scant and stinky evidence, like cats do.

I would hope for more, for better, for a hand to hold, for words to echo back to me. I would hope for that, except I know better. I know there is only this. This night, this early cold night. Has the ice cube season passed? I hate to think so. I want some more clink and cold and wetness at my beckon.

It hasn’t turned cold yet at home and I am not anxious for it to do so . I want ice cube season awhile longer too .

I didn't know there was a season to ice cubes.

It's summer, I think.

Yes, that does make sense. I like my cold drinks COLD, so I'm always adding ice. :)

I loved Wyoming Stories. They're all excellent reads. There's a very short one called "55 miles to the gas pump" and it's astonishing.

She's an interesting woman. The ranching/big country/hard life aspects put me a bit in mind of aspects of how things here even in my little groomed and civilized corner of Iowa.
Ah but the rodeo riders break my heart - Brokeback Mountain is so so so sad.

I drink iced tea all summer long. Unsweetened. We live in unsweet tea territory. But restaurants will ask to make sure. Anyway, back to iced tea. I use ice cubes. Once the weather starts to cool off I can't drink it. It makes me too cold. If we go out to dinner and I don't want a beer or whatever I will order iced tea. I can drink it while eating out. But that's it. Ice cube season is on the way out here.

Ice cube season is all year long in my house. Seven years ago we were painting flowers at your house. Time does fly.

Ice cube season? Is this why the convenience store clerk gave me weird looks when I got a popsicle for my walks to the subway station after school in winter?
