#05 - Housing Conundrum (College Post) in Elaina - Vita Post Mortem

It's starting to get really bad at home again. My brother is talking about moving out so that obviously means that I get the brunt of pretty much everything since I'm still at home. I should be going to school full time and have a job and be moving out and yada yada...

So I've been thinking of a slight adjustment to the plan. Living on Campus is really expensive as far as a small community college is concerned. It's $3,900 for a 4 bedroom suite with a $1,150 meal plan per semester. So about $10,000 a year just to live on campus which itself is absolutely ridiculous. But it's starting to look like it's worth it just to get out of this house one year earlier.

I need to stop worrying about money and not being able to do things and actually just do them. I'm thinking about taking the loan if the grant alone won't cover it. Which I'm honestly surprised I'm only getting $5000 a year with being an independent. Using the loan money to pay for the on campus living and getting a part time job at the college to save up for a plane ticket to Utah.

That's the idea anyway, the job part might not be the easiest part and it's one of the more crucial parts.

Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and my grant will get extra money once I get the adoption paper work in. I can't apply to go on campus until I get my financial aid money because I can't afford the $250 safety deposit and I refuse to ask for anything from my family any longer. I'll do this on my own.

At this point I'm just waiting on a few questions to be answered for me from the college.

How do I change the status of living on my FAFSA documents, (changing from living at home to on campus) do I have a way to edit it or do I have to completely redo the form? That part isn't that hard because the form doesn't take but a minute to finish.

If I change my housing situation will it end up netting me more money? I was reading somewhere that the maximum for both FAFSA and Tap were a little over $5,000 if all the requirements were met. Which would cover for about 3/4ths of the costs which would mean I would need to get a part of the loan in order to cover everything.

What is the deadline for applying for the dorm rooms because I'm not sure how long it is going to take for the FAFSA/Tap to go through and I don't want to miss out on a room because of it. I won't be able to apply for a room until I have my financial aid money in order due to the security deposit.
