So N volunterraly quit today.

My boss pulled me into her office first thing and wanted a real talk. Plainly. How is N doing and is she REALLY cut out for this job. I said shes struggling and no shes not. She cant multi task the way we need her too. Her previous receptionist work was MUCH simpler. There are 20 steps to make an appointment and you have to do them all. She took 20 minutes. I take 5 for all of them. And no its not a fair comparison, with my ADHD and multitasking. Not everyone will be as fast as me. We didnt expect that. But after a month of struggling.

So after our convo and then her therapy appt. She called N into her office. It took maybe 8 minutes. N walked out smiled at me and left. Im bummed she didnt say goodbye but I get it too. She was offered a severance package to help her out while she finds a new job. I took over as receptionist while we once again start looking for a unicorn.

Its not fair to her to keep her employed. She was stressed and anxious all the time. Its not helping her to keep her employed you know. And we knew it. Mental health support is what we do. Its hard to not see it. And we did like her, she was great but she wasn’t it for work. So that is the end of N.

D the new medical specialist started today. She hasn’t managed a company this size but she dosent seem to be phased or stressed yet. We did her onboarding docs and she started training with M. I think its going to go good. I have a better feeling about her. N made me nervous to start but her personality was much better then D the previous receptionist. So that helped. But the apprehension came back as she was unable to do a chunk of her job.

Monday is often our busiest day, answering calls and emails from the weekend. She came in at 9. Left at 11. I got the phone back at 11. I had 30 emails, 15 texts and 18 voicemails to catch up on. As I had checked the email and phone when I came in. I knew she had not done a thing in two hours. Plus it snowed so the day itself was SUPER quiet. People dont come, or call as much when it snows. Weird right lol.

Anyway now my boss has sent me a dozen resumes to read through and see what applicants we have. She wants me and her intern director look at them and we can agree on people we want to interview. She says the nice thing is that with a new receptionist and new biller, They will know me as their supervisor and no one will ever feel like at one point I wasnt their supervisor. That its easier with new people.

Well. On to start my office manager class. Im looking for one on supervising people as well. Free ones are best lol.

It's crazy you guys have struck out so many times. Even crazier that you actually let people go if they aren't working out! All of my jobs we held on to ppl who had no business keeping their jobs! It's crazy to me that your place actually let's ppl go!! Wow. I'm legit stunned.

We have some excellent candidates, several medical receptionists, a few vet receptionists. three from one company actually. Like wow.
Regan said this was the first person she has had to fire and it hurt. She was so anxious. She kept chewing on her necklace. I gave her chocolate. As nice as N was, its best this way. I really hope we have some better luck. We sent out pre interview questionnaires to 11. Interviews later this week. We are going to do a simple computer usage test Give some step by step instructions on paper and have them at least attempt. Mostly to see if they CAN do multi step instructions. One is a previous office manager but was for a restaurant. Not quite medical . But she was in our maybe pile. Im REALLY hoping third time is a charm right?

Restaurant people can absolutely multi task! They can run circles, are used to high stress, typically get along with every one since its obviously customer service 100%. I bet she would be great. But then, I have worked with some waitresses who just could not get the hang of it and I'm like HOW this is the easiest shit! But it's really not. I mean, its easy to me, but not for everyone. But. My money is still on the waitress girl. I'd be weary of the vet office crew. Vet staff are typically snobby as hell! I only like ONE girl from all of the vet offices I've been to. One of former best friends went to school for vet tech and she said it's such a shitty industry cuz co-workers are always snobby and mean.

We are interviewing tomorrow morning for a gal who is coming from a medical receptionist at a local clinic with about 10 clinicians. But no reoccurring appts really. And we reoccur people for months. So more clinicians but less overall volume I think. Her questionnaire was great. We have high hopes haha. The waitress manager didnt get back to us yet. We are happy to interview all 8 yes applicants if they answer us.

It’s kind of sad. I feel for her; it’s never pleasant to be terminated. Especially after such a short time and the way the economy is today . I hope she has a plan B. She handled it well . I probably would not have smiled on my way out .

She was given severance pay which is helpful and her husband started working after she did. At first she was the only one working. So between the two, it will hopefully give them a break while she finds something else if she chooses too. Its hard because she was so nice. Im hoping I can maybe find her email on her employee files and at least wish her well. As hard as it was to work with her. I do hate people moving on.
