Summer Music in anticlimatic

There was a summer some years back that only saw a few days over 80 degrees. That was the summer that taught me to appreciate the heat, and all the magic it brings. Heat wave daylight drains the body and pressurizes the soul. It’s savage, but not entirely miserable. Though shade offers meager comfort, it does allow the generous use of senses otherwise mottled by immediate peril. From the shade, one can at least see and feel the green crawling life of the world in which we too participate at our most fevered. It begs notes for later, that perhaps can’t be adequately enjoyed in the moment. Much unlike the moments after twilight, and well into evening, when the atmosphere hits just the right sweet spot. The latest flowers of the spring season participate in this atmosphere with the most mature flowers of the earliest weeks. On warm nights I’ll stroll or cycle the quiet shaded streets and sidewalks- all the neat lines of intimately arranged houses, suddenly stuffed and overflowing from all crevices with lush virgin organic matter. To experience it is to feel plugged into the world entire. What greater meaning is there in life?
