Isn’t it interesting how binary everything becomes? Black and white, good and evil, love and hate. Everything conceptualized by humans becomes dichotomous. Or is it the way of the universe entire? Neurons in the brain lay the hard wires of thought by either firing or not firing. Protons and electrons deal in the currency all by themselves, without human intervention. The phenomenon is deep. Undeniably prevalent.

If there is one thing we have learned as a species, it is that balance in all things is the most ideal state. Equal measures of both. Caution must be balanced with risk. Impulsivity must be balanced with deliberation. Respect must be balanced with potential viciousness.

What purpose drives our decisions? To remain safe and prolong life and comfort lasts only as long as mortality can be ignored. Once it cannot, it is not enough to merely prolong for the operators of our decisions. Decisions turn then towards enriching life as a whole with an orientation that surrounds it, from beginning to end- a conceptual sphere. Decisions made from that perspective are tilted a bit from those of its younger predecessor. The source of meaning shifts. It demands redefinition of every goal and action; as calamitous an event as birth itself.
