The Hobbit movies aren’t the best, but they’re a nice addendum to PJ’s LotR adaptation. Something I like is how it helps the character of Legolas.

Who has been accused of not HAVING much of a character in LotR.

See, The Hobbit movies demonstrate how Legolas is pretty much max level in LotR.

Consider how Legolas literally runs out of arrows in The Hobbit.

This means that between the two trilogies, Legolas had to go on a side-quest to obtain the Mythical Quiver of Unlimited Arrows. Don’t know about you, but I’d so watch a movie that explores this potential lore. We don’t NEED to know how or why he needed to acquire The Mythical Quiver of Unlimited Arrows. No secret Star Wars Solo gave backstory that we didn’t really need.

But a little more Legolas? I’d watch that.

Furthermore, Legolas is a bit of a racist douchenozzle in The Hobbit. This strengthens the pay-off towards the end of RotK, when Legolas finally lets go of his prejudice, and accepts Gimli.

As well, by Two Towers, Legolas finally learned/unlocked the ability to shield-surf down stairs. Mock it all you want, that is a VERY high level skill to employ.

Though, in The Hobbit, he had learned/unlocked a skill with a long recharge time called Super Mario Legolas, that allowed him to temporarily defy basic physics. Gotta be pretty high level to pull that off successfully.

Dang it, now I want to watch all six movies again. Well… I haven’t watched them all THIS year yet....

I'm re-listening to the audio books. Now I want to watch the movies again too.
