Yup, we’re in the Cone of Doom! The thing is, no one has any idea what the storm will turn into, if anything, and no one knows where it will go. But the talking heads and fear mongers have placed South Florida into the Cone of Doom! Cam keeps saying he wants “to get a bug out bag ready, just in case of flooding.” We’re telling him that’s not necessary at this time. This child has always been one to watch the news. While most 6 and 7 year olds were watching cartoons, Cam was watching the news. Now he’s 12 and he’s still watching the news. He always has a news channel or a weather channel on. I have to tell him to change it! Despite my requests he always goes back to news. It makes for a lot of interesting conversation in our house though.
He’s an only child and we tend to treat him more as an equal in the house than a child. We always have. That boy is like me, he has an old soul.
Anyway, Cone of Doom. We’re not doing anything to prepare, because, there’s nothing to prepare for. We’ll have a rainy weekend. Maybe we’ll bust out some board games while I make something in the crock pot.
Brian and I are trying to figure out finances. I have been advocating for nixing cable, it would save us almost $300 a month, and he’s fighting me. I don’t understand why. He’s only awake in the living room for maybe three hours a day and he watches the same reruns on Food Network, Discovery, or Nat Geo. We have practically every streaming subscription there is, we just need basic cable and the internet. Hell, if I didn’t need the internet at home for work and (soon) Cam’s school I’d stop paying the bill all together and have it disconnected. Too bad we need it.
Hopefully he’ll see it my way soon. If not I’ll just start nagging. The bill is in his name so there’s not much I can go myself. I think he’s coming around because I showed him our financial spreadsheet. With us having to move in four months it’s not looking as pretty as I’d like.
Still not much word from any mortgage broker. I have no clue what we’re going to do. Absolute worst case scenario is we put all of our shit in PODS and move in with my folks in their teeny tiny 2 bedroom....
