As much as I want to rail against
superstition and magical thinking,
in the end, I realize I’m privileged
to be able to think of it this way.
For so many marginalized people,
myth and ritual are the only hope
left available within their lives.
I needn’t try to roll the bones
or read the movement of the stars
or consult shufflings of the cards
but I’d be an asshole to look down
on thosewho can only watch the sky
we’re all just doing what we need
to help ourselves fumblingly get by.
