I have such a hard time with the Friday nights where I work the next morning. It’s Friday so I feel like I should be getting into the weekend spirit but it’s a lie because work. Bleh. And it looks like we are completely booked tomorrow, which means our vaccine appointments will turn into what I call Vaccine Plus (as in, vaccines plus my dog has been limping for a month or vaccines plus my cat has been vomiting 3 times a week since last year, vaccines plus my dogs leg fell off, etc) and we’ll get at least 3 walk ins, at least one of which will be an actual emergency that will end in euthanasia. We’ll see how accurate this prediction ends up being. On Saturdays, it’s not unusual to see 12-14 appointments in a three hour time span. Yuck.

Today, M saw a hamster whose eye had popped out. Owners had $45, which didn’t cover the exam fee. M is now the owner of a one-eyed Hamster we’ve named Uno. They surrendered her, M removed the bad eye and Uno was up and eating snacks in no time. She’s a really cute hamster and was surprisingly friendly despite everything.

We also had so many clients reeking of pot today. It was so oppressive that I thought I started to smell like it. Not pleasant.

I’m so ready to hibernate.

I think that’s every Saturday at every clinic, man. Humans. Ugh. I hope it’s going okay.

Thanks! It wasn't as nightmarish as it could have been :)

They gave up their hamster just because it was going to lose an eye? Or is there more to this story?

No, they couldn't afford to give the hamster the care she needed (couldn't even afford the exam fee and she needed surgery to remove the eye), so they were kind enough to surrender her to us so that she could have a second chance at life.
