Was it a Holiday or Not? in These Foolish Things

So…did we celebrate Columbus Day or not? I don’t think I’ve ever “celebrated” it. I’ve always had to work on this holiday and I don’t even remember having the day off as a kid in school. But then it’s been so long since I’ve been in school so what do I know?

But yeah, we really don’t do much of a holiday on this day in the US, do we? Is it because Christopher Columbus is a controversial figure in our history now? I mean, it just seems like we don’t pay that much attention to Columbus Day, does it?

My financial advisor sure used it as an excuse today, however. See, we were supposed to meet for lunch and I got to the location and sent him a text telling him where I was sitting and about 5 minutes later I got a phone call from him telling me he was in Boston visiting one of his kids in college and his calendar on his phone wasn’t working, etc. which was complete bullshit, but whatever. It just means that he’s gonna have to totally suck it up when we meet on Wednesday.

I ended up just taking myself to lunch (nice sushi and steaming hot water to wash it down - how Asian of me - all my Asian friends drink hot water and I love it now that I’m cold all the time!). Then back to the office to talk with boss about something that had me needing to leave the office to go look at a certain retailer who’s carrying TLIC. I needed to go check it out and report back.

And then I started to make my way back to my neck of the woods via a couple of other customer locations. Ended up deciding to stop at the Apple store to see if I could upgrade to the latest iphone. Turns out, I’d paid for my iphone X in full and was eligible for a big refund for turning in my current phone and getting the NEW iPhone 11 Max Pro…wooo wooo!!

The big reason I wanted to see if I could get the new phone now was because I wanted to see how awesome the cool new cameras are when we go to the Grand Canyon next weekend. I have a feeling it’s gonna be amazing! But yeah, gotta figure out the camera situation ahead of time, right? We’ll see how far I get. Heh.

So yeah. I’m tired and it’s bedtime. Slept for shit again last night - I think it was because of all of the alcohol I consumed over the weekend. I’m gonna get to bed now and see if I can make up for it a little bit.

Oh!! And happy Harvest Moon too!!
Love,
GS

P.S. Big Wild Rancher’s texts are getting weirder. I don’t get him!! Perhaps I’ll expound tomorrow.

That was a bit shitty of your Financial Advisor to pull a stunt like that!

I very much enjoyed the Columbus day sales on my LA layover 😁

It's a stupid made up holiday. Like most of them. ;)

OOOOH, is that why the moon was so freaking enormous this morning?! Ha. I seriously didn't know, but it was beautiful!

Our state employees get it off and the schools are closed here. I like the idea of Indigenous People’s Day better than Columbus. From what I have read; he was a creep but a product of his times :-( . We have to admit he was a fearless explorer though.

Yeah, it's Indigenous People's Day here in South Dakota, too. Columbus is practically a bad word these days. Doesn't matter what they call it, though...I still had to work.
