MAC in My this and that

So, a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with another MAC (Mycobacterium Avium Complex) which is extremely frustrating, no matter how happy I am to know what is wrong.

I’ve started treatment, which consists of 3 different antibiotics that I must take for at least a year. Last time I had a yeast infection the whole time. Sorry if that’s TMI. It’s the main side effect I am experiencing this time as well, aside from just being extremely tired.

I am taking 5 probiotics a day to try to support my gut health… I thought they were working to head off that yeast infection side-effect, but alas, I just don’t think they can keep up. It makes happy-fun-marriage-time a bit less desirable for me… mostly because I just feel defective.

My shortness of breath hasn’t improved yet, but I’m hoping over the next month I see a marked improvement and that my cough will go away… didn’t have that last time, and it’s a full, gross cough so I’d like to see that gone.

Talked to the doc about surgery… she said if I get a third MAC then we’d have a serious discussion about removing the damaged parts of my lungs to see if that would prevent a fourth round. I hope it doesn’t come to that. Surgery is risky, and she’s not even sure if my lungs would handle it well… but that’s all in the distant future anyway.

In other news, I turned 33 this past week! Ben took me to a dinner theatre of Footloose, which was SO fun! I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time, and the food was amazing. I love my husband so much.

I saw you on the front page. Can you ask for a prescription of Diflucan to fight off the yeast infection?

Unfortunately a prescription to help with the yeast infection will interact negatively with the prescriptions to fight the infection in my lungs. I definitely checked with my doctor! Thanks for thinking of me though!
