Those who have never dealt with depression are totally clueless about its effects on a person. I have had the misfortune of being one of those people who knew nothing about it and then learned first hand of its grip. It is a mental illness and it must be treated as such.
The worst thing you can say to a person who has depression is “Just Deal With It.” Those who don’t understand the illness think you can just decide to mentally overcome it. Still, others, think you should be able to take a magic pill and it instantly is cured.
There is an old saying, “don’t judge me until you have walked a mile in my shoes.” One of the hardest things about depression is when someone asks you what is wrong you really can’t tell them. It’s not that you don’t want to, many times you just don’t know. To those of you who have to deal with depression, get help and never give up.
