Linger awhile Summer in A New Start

Fall is here. I am sad , where did Summer go ? I was looking the other way when it passed, I think . Hoping for at least a month more of decent weather. I feel guilty even saying that after seeing the terrible images from the Bahamas. No matter what our weather is ; it’s so much better than what those people have been through with Dorian . I see places I have been in Freeport and Nassau and I am horrified. Many people there are extremely poor when you go away from the tourist areas ; those people could not leave ( no money and no place to go ) and now they have lost what little they had , plus have been endangered. Most people don’t see much of that side of the Bahamas but seeing it affected me. There were no safe places for those people to go and their houses are not sturdy .
We keep watching the news as I am worried about any of you in Florida and everywhere else Dorian might go ; I have family possibly affected in Orlando and Jacksonville Beach .
Not a lot to write about for me lately . Life has been slow and mostly uneventful. Minus Frank scoping out my journal :-( I am obsessed with my plants and getting them in before cold weather. I had the bright idea of counting them and there are well over 200. That made me feel like a true Plant Hoarder. :-( I need to check or repot each one before I bring them in. I have made a pretty good start on that . Now I have to think about where they need to go in the sunroom for light requirements and how to leave aisles so I can water . Also room to have a stool to reach plants on high shelves. This is going to take some tricky arranging ..
warning : skip this part if plants bore you :-) This plan is mostly for me anyway:,The plants that require the most light are my hibiscus ( what is the plural of that ?) , Jasmines, cape honeysuckle , Gloriosa Lilies, gardenias , the Ioxora , Milkweeds , plumerias, Hoyas, crown of thorns , fig trees, Jackfruit , Heavenly Bamboo , Mandeveillas, Bougainveillas , Clethras, Diplandeias, cannas, Banana trees, citrus trees, Peruvian daffodils , Herbs, the water plants ( horsetail , Rush, and Papyrus ) and Elephant Ears. Begonias, Rex Begonias, Geraniums, Caladiums, Ferns , philodendrons, Pothos , and Ivies tolerate filtered light . Cacti , euphorbia, and succulents require bright light but less water. Then there are the Amaryllis which go dormant for awhile so I can fit them in wherever. My African violets , creeping figs and Fittonias are in the house. There are three sad orchids that I put under grow lights. Those are definitely not my favorite plants and they are hanging on to survival by a thread. Poor things. Ok, that’s my plan. I better stick to it .
When this plant revival is over I will be moving on to Fall cleaning ( Combined with Spring cleaning and declutter that I never finished. ) I have things to get rid of , some furniture to paint , rooms to rearrange . I have an antique china cabinet I want to make into a craft cabinet and I am hoping to catalog my books. That should totally fill my Winter :-); somehow fitting Christmas in there somewhere . October is my Dad and Frank’s birthdays.
Josh is having back problems and had to go to Prompt Care today. I was surprised they put him on steroids . They gave him Flexaril too . He ate supper and was out like a light. He may have to have an MRI . Thank goodness he has good insurance now.
Blake has been pretty uncommunicative recently ; he and April moved into a house ; and he has been very preoccupied with that . It’s a much bigger space so that will make them both happier. We miss him terribly but he is off living his life and has had no complaints lately . He calls when anything goes wrong :-)
Currently I am not happy with my cousin. She had a 9 year old Chihuahua named, Chester , who adored her . However he had started peeing in the house. He ruined a thousand dollar area rug of hers ( who spends that much on a stupid rug?) so she had him put to sleep . WTH ? I am so angry with her I hung up on her. Poor Chester. If I had known she was going to do that , I would have taken him . There were many alternatives besides killing him. I may not talk to her again for quite awhile. I have strong feelings about people who do things like that to their pets. She knows that too and that’s why she did not tell me before she did it . If he had been sick , I would have understood but a month ago she took him to the vet and the vet said he was perfectly healthy for his age and nine is not old for that breed. She was the one who didn’t want to be bothered taking care of him anymore . That is not a good reason to kill your pet . She thinks I treat mine too much like children and I think she should never have a dog again. I did tell her that before I hung up. I am still furious with her. I imagine I will be for a long time :-( It’s kind of ruined our relationship and I am sad about that .
I need to go to bed. I can tell I am getting crabby :-) Its not been a great day but I have high hopes for tomorrow . Sweet Dreams and everyone be safe !

Poor Chester - what a rotten thing to do! And such a shame because you two had a good relationship too :(

Jinn Marg ⋅ September 04, 2019

It’s sad because now I see her with different eyes. She lacks heart ❤️. Anyone who is more attached to a rug than her dog is not like me at all :-(

Marg Jinn ⋅ September 05, 2019

Absolutely!

Firebabe September 04, 2019

Oh, I'm so jealous of your plant skills. I have two thumbs, but they're both black when it comes to plants. :(

Poor Chester. That's just...abominable. There's so many causes for why a dog starts messing in the house, and so many things you can do to fix it. Going straight for the end game is terrible. I sincerely hope she never gets another dog.

Jinn Firebabe ⋅ September 04, 2019

Thanks !!! I can teach you how to grow plants if you are interested. It’s so easy . Just basically the right pot ( with good drainage holes), good potting mix , a decent window or Gro- light, and water when the soil feels dry to the touch . Never let a plant sit in water more than a few minutes. This plan works for almost every plant.:-) Most people don’t check their plants enough . I have to check mine every couple days .Its almost like having a bunch of pets :-)
I am so disappointed in my cousin . I have never known her to do anything so heartless as what she did with Chester. There was no reason to have him killed except she did not want to take care of him anymore and that stupid rug . I can’t wrap my head or my heart around that :-( We aren’t those kind of people. :-(

Firebabe Jinn ⋅ September 04, 2019 (edited September 04, 2019)

Edited

Yeah, I'm bad at watering (as well as other things.) I'll water regularly for a week or so, then I'll forget, then I'll realize the poor plant is bone dry and I'll panic and over-water it. Aaaaand it's all downhill from there. LOL.

I actually have a pothos plant that I've kept alive and healthy for over 12 years. It's my pride and joy. I've re-potted it, three times, moved it five times, and it's still going strong. I think it just realized a while back that it was going to have to figure out how to survive on it's own or it was going to die. LOL.

Jinn Firebabe ⋅ September 04, 2019

:-) I have a Pothos from Hemmingway’s garden . I love it ! It’s really a tough plant. I have started lots of others from it .

❤️vee September 04, 2019

Poor Chester! That's just awful, nothing less than horrible really.

Also, I am so envious of your plants! I can't grow plants to save my life and even my decorative fake plants look a bit sad.

Jinn ❤️vee ⋅ September 04, 2019

Awww, anyone can grow plants ; it’s just a matter of finding the right light ( window or Gro- light) , a pot with good holes in the bottom , a saucer to go underneath that pot , and good potting soil. Stick the plant in the soil, in the pot , then put it where it can get light. Water when the soil feels dry to the touch . Never let it stand longer than a few minutes in water (that comes out of the bottom when watering)!. Most plants get “root rot “ easily if they stand in water . Once a year , repot them. I also use liquid plant food ( diluted by half ) when I water , until December , then I stop fertilizing until Feb. It’s not even necessary to fertilize . That is about all the care 99 percent of plants need . I do cut off dead leaves and all plants get those :-) If you ever want to try some plants and need advice ; feel free to call on me . I am no expert but I rarely lose anything following this plan of care :-)
I am still upset about Chester and it’s sad because my cousin was like my sister to me . I don’t have any sisters :-(

^..^Kat September 04, 2019

I'm very angry with your cousin too. RIP Chester, he was put to sleep for absolutely no good reason. :(

Jinn ^..^Kat ⋅ September 04, 2019

I know. I am still sad and angry about it. If she had only told me before. He was a little neurotic but a sweet dog . I would have taken him. He would have adjusted to my pack eventually .

thesunnyabyss September 04, 2019

poor Chester, putting a dog down is never a choice, unless of course the obvious, that really is too bad,

I love your plants and I appreciate your knowledge of them,

big hugs

Jinn thesunnyabyss ⋅ September 04, 2019

Thanks ! Chester :-(

Queensuzu1 September 04, 2019

You sure DO have a lot of plants but if that is what makes you happy and you can take proper care of them, who cares? As for your cousin and her dog that is just so wrong. She knows how you are about your animals so why didn't she ask you if you would take him?

Jinn Queensuzu1 ⋅ September 04, 2019

I don’t know why she did not ask me . It’s ruined our relationship. I am so angry that she did that :-(

Jinn Queensuzu1 ⋅ September 04, 2019

Yeah, my plant count is crazy . I just seemed to lose track of how many I was accumulating ...

Kristi1971 September 05, 2019

So disgusting...I would not talk to her ever again either.

Jinn Kristi1971 ⋅ September 05, 2019

I don’t think I will :-(

GypsyWynd September 05, 2019

When your cousin is old and incontinent, will her kids do to her what she did to Chester?

Jinn GypsyWynd ⋅ September 05, 2019

She has one daughter and I highly doubt she would take care of her , but she has plenty of money, so I imagine she is set for life for whatever she needs.
She is one of those people who you hear say; “ It’s just a dog.” . We currently are not speaking :-(

GypsyWynd Jinn ⋅ September 06, 2019

If "it's just a dog", why have it? I have a friend who has a dog, and it never comes in the house (unless the weather is life threatening). He goes out once a day to feed the dog, and that's about it.
Poor Chester. She could've rehomed him. She was selfish and cruel. Chester is probably better off without her, but what she did was unforgivable in my book.

Jinn GypsyWynd ⋅ September 06, 2019

Mine too . It kills me because before this she was like a sister to me :-(

Deleted user September 05, 2019

That's horrible! I'd be super uncomfortable having anything to do with anyone like that.

I have a 16 year old cat who has been peeing inside, I have a destroyed rug in the shed, I've been trying to steam clean, I don't know if it can be salvaged, but honestly the cost of a rug VS. Your pet?

Wow.

BTW I can tell you where summer has gone. It's here. First week of spring, it's 32 degrees here today and there's currently 47 fires burning in Queensland... It's hot dry and windy... January is going to be ridiculously hot!

Jinn Deleted user ⋅ September 06, 2019

Oh dear, poor Australia!!!
I have never euthanized any of my pets except when they were in bad pain and dying . Then it’s a mercy . Chester was healthy :-( and not that old .

Ferret Mom September 06, 2019

How in the hell is putting a dog to sleep the right solution in that situation?!?!?!?

Jinn Ferret Mom ⋅ September 06, 2019

It certainly wasn’t :-(

Purple Dawn September 06, 2019

That's sad. She could have rehomed the dog.
Your plants are lovely,
D.

Jinn Purple Dawn ⋅ September 06, 2019

Thanks... it is sad about poor Chester . I would have taken him if I had any idea she planned to do that .

Ragdolls September 08, 2019

Chihuahuas are known for getting UTI's. A test at the vet and some meds could have cleared up the situation. How horrible to put the dog down without finding out the reason for the accidents.

Jinn Ragdolls ⋅ September 08, 2019

She took him to the vet and he was healthy. I think she just was not getting him outside enough and he peed on the dang rug . Then she freaked out . He was nine years old but that is not old for that breed. It’s just inconceivable to me why she did that or why a vet would go along with it. We were really close and now this has ended our relationship. She is not who I always believed she was. :-(

Ragdolls Jinn ⋅ September 08, 2019

Just so very sad.

Jinn Ragdolls ⋅ September 09, 2019

It is sad and I am not forgiving her . Not that it’s bothering her that I am angry . I feel so sad for him. She actually said, “ Well, he is in a better place now “ Really ? Dead ? Unbelievable. If he had been suffering , yes, but he wasn’t . Who thinks dead is preferable to living ? That is kind of twisted. In my opinion.

SilentEcho September 11, 2019

Post photos of the orchids, I'd like to see them!!

Jinn SilentEcho ⋅ September 11, 2019

I am ashamed of them :-) They are about the only plants I massively fail with. They are going to get repotted but probably not today . It’s 90F here at 10:00 AM . :-( so doing much outside is not pleasant but I plan to do a little. :-) . After I repot them, I will do a picture . :-)

SilentEcho Jinn ⋅ September 11, 2019

Don't be! I'm just curious about how they look. A guy on fb sent ne his picture of his orchid. I have no idea how it still blooms. It's walking away from its pot, roots look dry as dust and he's never done anything but water it so it blooms off an old spike that won't die.

Jinn SilentEcho ⋅ September 11, 2019

:-) Orchid abuse :-)

ODSago September 11, 2019

Great plant photos. Living where I do, I saw that it is Fall there and was sort of stumped...LOL on my behalf, I'd forgotten how soon fall arrives elsewhere. Here there is summer all through the land.

Jinn ODSago ⋅ September 12, 2019

Yes, Winter is coming and I am trying to drag my plants inside but it’s a slow process because I am doing it alone this year. We have had a run of 90F degree days . I try but I can’t stay out working in that heat for long. Half an hour and I am drenched in sweat and dizzy . Hoping today is cooler ! Also the weekend. I need to finish this project up !

Oswego October 16, 2019

That was a terrible thing she did. I wonder if she has any regrets now.

Jinn Oswego ⋅ October 16, 2019

I don’t think so . She is one of those people who thinks an animal is just an animal . She thinks I care too much about them. :-(

Deleted user April 04, 2020

Wow...you have so many plants! The pictures are beautiful. Greetings from Belgium from Dafnee....(Edelweis) It was not possible to sign in with my former diary name. :(

These plants are beautiful. I know this is an old entry but thought I would leave a note anyway.

Thanks! I am plant obsessed :-)

Deleted user October 27, 2020

I'm back, I created a whole new account. A peace of mind thing, I guess.

Good to see you ! I wondered !

Reading_Blankie 📚 October 27, 2020

Omg! $1000 on a rug??! Poor Chester, that’s just horrible what she did to him.

We’ve had the longest 100° Weather on record. We live in AZ, and we’ve had NO storms this storm season and it has been HOT much longer than it’s supposed to. Yesterday was the first day in the 60° range

The Tranquil Loon December 15, 2020

Hey gorgeous I am back. Where are your new writings? I want to read more!
