Name: Cynical Rodge
Introduction Platform: Bumble
Age: 50
Relationship Status: Divorced, 2.5 years ago
Job: Accountant
Lives: In a super boring burb
Length of Date: 1.5 hours
We Did: Sat outside on a patio at a new place near me, drank wine and talked
He Looked: My guess is that he’s had gastric bypass or sleeve. NOTHING wrong with that, of course, but his clothes were ill-fitting. He has a very handsome face and nice clothes…just…he looked out of place is his own body, if that makes any sense. His profile photos were all of “up” angles, so you can’t really tell what his body looks like. I know that this is a trick that a lot of people use and I don’t fault him or feel like it was “false advertising” - but I feel like there was something amiss and we don’t look like we go together.
I Looked: Changed out of my work clothes into a cute summer dress with a giant leafy green pattern. I love this summery look! And the weather was perfect for sitting outside!
Convo: Strained. He was REALLY NERVOUS and I knew before we even sat down that it was going to be a difficult one. The conversation did not flow. At all. He tried to ask me questions and that was nice of him, but it felt like he was trying to argue with me a little bit. It was strange. Everything that came out of his mouth sounded cynical and I called him out a bit. Like, life kinda sucks. He then asked me about travel and I told him how much I love travel, but then he wanted me to get specific, so I started telling him about my last trip to France and the UK and then the Argentina trip and he stopped me like he didn’t want to hear any more. And then he asked, “Don’t you want to know why my ex and I broke up?” And I wanted to say, “NO. No I don’t!” But instead I said, “Okay, why did you break up?” and he was all… “It just didn’t work out.”
I mean…HUH??!!
High Point: The cute coupes that the restaurant uses to serve champagne. Oh, and sitting outside on the beautiful patio.
Low Point: That the date sucked from “hello”.
How It Ended: I told him I needed to go home so I could walk my dog. He got the check. I went to grab my credit card and he refused. I told him that I didn’t feel chemistry - pretty bluntly, but not in a mean way by any means…but I just wasn’t into it. But for some reason he sent me this text last night after we both got home:
It was awkward on my side. I was very intimidated by how beautiful you are. You seem very interesting. Did you see any sparks? Just making sure I’m reading this correctly.
