except for bryce forgetting to bring his tablet on tuesday and then refusing any of my suggestions for things to do. then on wednesday bryce had a little rock collection thing with various types of rocks labeled, he wanted to go over to the beach and see how many types of rock we could identify. but it rained all day. and then was clear and sunny ten minutes down the road when i left to drop them off in town. other than that they sat on their tablets all day. i don’t think they really need to be babysat, jake’s old enough and as long as they had a no-friends-visiting rule they’d be fine. bryce is only really trouble when his mum’s there, or if he has a little mate to egg him on. if it’s just the two of them they just sit on their tablets watching youtube or playing games.
it rained all weekend too. jimmy was here for a while on saturday with a mate and his father. there is, or was, an old shed around the back of their house here that we tore down because jimmy’s dad had a new shed. jimmy and his mate had already tore down the old shed by wrapping a winch cable from a truck around it, i don’t think they’d expected that to even work but it was in bits by the time i got there. rusty bits. so we moved them out of the way, and then moved them again because they were in the way of the trailer with the shed on top of it that needed to be reversed into place. the floor of the old shed was lined with bricks that we had to move and had somewhere near a million (three) centipedes crawling around under them but i somehow managed to not run away screaming and/or crying so that was good.
we spent quite a lot of time propping this shed up, shimmying it over a bit, propping it up some more, getting the trailer out from under it then gently lowering it (dropping it a foot and a half) into place. afterwards we were standing around congratulating ourselves on doing such a fine job when jimmy’s mate points at the trailer and says it’s a ramp type trailer. you… it’s what, now? so we could have just not done all of that and then tipped the floor of the trailer up and have the shed slide right off. when they left and jimmy’s dad was packing up i went and got him some pumpkins. super stoked, pumpkin soup.
jimmy’s twins are due any day now. he seems fairly set on keeping our bargain, the one where he shaves his beard if i smoke a joint with him to celebrate the twins being born. i’ve told him i’d have celebrated with him for having kids however he wanted, that he didn’t have to throw the shaving part in as incentive but also he still has to shave off his beloved since that was the deal. a few weeks ago he said he was in a slight amount of trouble with his wife over the beard shaving thing but held his ground and said yes, it was that important to him. i don’t see why. he’ll have maybe two spare minutes when they’re born. maybe. and for me it’s been so long it’s probably just going to end with me lying on the ground somewhere next to a spider, telling it i’m really fucking stoned and asking if it’s okay if i hang out with you for a while, you guys are awesome, i feel safe with you, you haven’t seen any centipedes lately have you? and what’s it like having eight eyes? yeah, wow, that’d be weird, do you eat centipedes? man, i really don’t like centipedes.
