peter welded together the frame that a salmon is mounted to which then mounts to the roof of a car. it’s the one the old bugger was fixing for a salmon farm down at the canals. now he’s got their salmon patched up and ready to return, i think he’s going to take them down on wednesday. when i visited last thursday he was in a rush, the people at the farm had called and asked why he was taking so long. he had a doctor appointment later that day and i think that was stressing him out too. when i got there he was exhausted after spraying one coat of paint on one salmon. i kind of felt bad, if it weren’t for that cold i had and if i’d been there to help we could have had these salmon fixed last week. or earlier. but at the same time if he’s exhausted after spending 20 minutes painting one salmon then me being there is just going to push him past his limits. if i’m there, or if he has visitors during the day then he’ll push himself to keep doing things or stay busy rather than taking a rest when he needs to. i think it’s pride. his bad heart valve has made him worse than he wants to admit. so i fetched some firewood inside and it looked like he was going to sit down so i left before he got up again and found something else to do. he’s a few months shy of 90. if he wants to he can sit and spend an afternoon with his feet up, watching his favourite program about pitbulls and parolees.

while peter was welding i kept the dog distracted so he didn’t flash burn his eyes since you can’t tell a dog not to look directly at a working welder. my broad beans have sprouted! despite somehow popping themselves right out of the soil and then me thumbing them back into the ground. maybe it was the rain we had lately, we haven’t had much frost the last few weeks either. either way i’ve got a bunch of weeding to do or my pumpkin patch with that seaweed i buried in it is going to turn into a bindweed patch.

the old bugger asked yesterday if i’d go up and trim the kiwifruit vine again sometime this week. i’ll do that tomorrow, it’s supposed to rain on wednesday and he should be off to the canals with those salmon by then. i’m in no rush to finish the garden i’m making here, i’ve dug out all the old railing and piled the soil into a mound, fixed a slight drainage issue and i put some insulation on a plumbing pipe under the house that was exposed. once i figure out how to get the timber sleepers sitting flat and level on the soil it’ll be all but finished. two of the sleepers need to be cut down to size then i can just bolt them together and set them in place. it almost feels like spring already but it doesn’t really need to be ready until september. and i think i’m going to make another raised bed garden. i just have to get rid of the three wheelers, smash a bunch of concrete and get some more timber sleepers.

anyway. it turns out i’m due for another infusion next week, i thought it was 2-3 weeks away and i couldn’t figure out why my bones and joints were getting sore already. getting this new garden ready has taken longer than i thought it would, especially the digging. for the last week or so every time i do something physical my right arm and leg feel weirdly numb and i get a headache. for me that always means i’m about to get a migraine but so far it’s just been a headache, if it would finally turn into a migraine i’m sure i could just take some migraine pills and it would stop. so that’s been a little frustrating.
