Introduction and Expectations in DE Overflow

Hello. My name is Julia.

The sudden closure of DE was unexpected but a little expected at the same time. I think many of the last years have been spent in denial that it would eventually come to this, but I just chose to put that thought aside because I didn’t want think about what I’d do if/when it came to this.

Many years ago I was really hit with the closure of Borders Bookstores. In a way, this felt very similar to that. Sure, there’s Barnes and Nobles and Books A Million but they just don’t compare to me. Felt like the death of a friend. This is similar. There’s Prose Box now and Live Journal and other similar sites back when I created DE but as much as they were basically the same they also felt very different.

My first entry on DE was back in June of 2003; almost 16 years and 2,482 entries ago. That’s a lot of history. In 2003 I was 15 year old dealing with anxiety of being a student/athlete, keeping up with friends and all of the dramas that come along with being a high schooler. DE started out as public writing space, but one day someone somehow found it and it just kind of snowballed into unnecessary drama among people I knew from my personal life. From there, I changed every entry to private and then only allowed friends to read. When DE closed I had 2 friends that were still active. (DE_fallenandhopeless and another but she’s changed her name on here so I don’t want to disclose it, but she knows who she is). Honestly, that was enough for me.

I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do here. I can’t (and won’t) go back and explain what happened in those 2,482 entries that have molded me, and I really shouldn’t have to. I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep it open to the new public or if I’ll just adjust it to friends only again and literally only let those same 2 people continue to read. Maybe the less change that takes place the better? Or, sometimes change is good.

We’ll see.

But, incase this stays public, here’s some overview and random facts about me:
1) I’m female. I support people. I don’t care about ethnicity, sexuality, political stance, etc. you are. If you’re a good person then you’re my type of person.
2) I’m a mother and a wife and these people are my life.
3) I have a corporate job that isn’t my dream job but it helps provide us a very comfortable lifestyle.
4) I have a creative mind and love getting to release the creative juices. I design things. Birth announcements. T-shirts. Wedding suites. Birthdays. Logos. You name it. (as a side job, not my main job)
5) I’m an anxious person. I don’t try to be, but it’s easier said than done. I don’t do well with anxiety. Never have and don’t anticipate it changing. So I’ve come to accept it a long time ago
6) I’m pro-choice, but that doesn’t mean that I’m pro-abortion. It means that I’m pro “you do whatever you want with YOUR body”. Every situation is different. Every pregnancy is different. 7) My favorite color is green
8) I don’t own a pair of socks. I hate socks. They make me feel claustrophobic and cue anxiety.
9) I’m from Michigan.
10) I love crime cases. Podcasts about murders. Documentaries about court cases. Interviews with inmates. You name it. I’ve probably listened/read it. If I could go back and re-do my education I’d want to be a forensic investigator.

But, that’s it for now. I honestly didn’t enjoy this post. Felt like I was obligated and expected to write something along the lines of explaining myself and not just coming to a place to pick up where I left off.

Peace.
Julia
