Sticks to the ribs

Today we have a guest writer, my wife Nin. Today the review is oatmeal from Backpackers Pantry and was purchased ON SALE (seriously low price! https://www.backpackerspantry.com/
maybe you can get yourself some also).

From Nin,

In lieu of recent health developments, I have been forced to become a breakfast eater. I admit, I hate breakfast. Everything is too sweet and none of the meals ever “stick around” for longer than an hour or more. Seriously, though, pancakes? How does that fill anyone up?

Luckily, the husband had my back. This morning he presented me with a packet of Hot Peanut Butter and Raisin Oatmeal. To the best of my knowledge, I have never tried anything from Backpackers Pantry. “What the heck,” I thought.

Preparation was easy enough. Squeeze the peanut butter package into the oatmeal, add a cup of boiling water (I actually used hot water from the coffee brewer at work), close pouch and wait five minutes.

The oatmeal was tasty with just a hint of sweetness. They claim cinnamon is mixed in, but I had a hard time finding it. Not a big deal, but it was a little missed.

My suggestions would be as followed;
-If you like raisins, you might want to add more. I think in the entire packet, there were five. They did plump up nicely, though.
-If you are going to eat from the pouch, grab a longer spoon. A standard spoon is way too short and you end up with oatmeal knuckles.
-Mix from the bottom up. Obvious reasons.
-Grab the oatmeal…and some other people. The packet claims it is one serving, but two (or three) people could eat on one package comfortably, depending on sides.

All in all, I would try other items from Backpackers Pantry.
Maybe just not by myself.
-Nin

Notes from Budzilla,

I purchased 2 packs of this oatmeal in total, the wife and I split one and we both had a full bowl. If you wanted to make this yourself, it would be pretty simple. I would start with plain oatmeal (I like instant because it’s easier), your favorite peanutbutter, raisins, and cinnamon. The rest would be all about portions and what you would prefer.
