Name: Chef K.

Introduction Platform: A mutual friend set us up - which is kind of funny in and of itself because it was actually kind of a joke that I even asked about Chef K. at the Oscars party. Still, I’m SO GLAD I DID!

Age: 51…and he’s a CAPRICORN! We are supposed to be most compatible this year!

Relationship Status: Single, never married. He was engaged once, lived with his fiance and her daughter. No kids of his own

Job: Chef and Restaurateur - owns several concepts and restaurants in town - mostly in the burbs that I don’t necessarily love…but that’s where his businesses are. He and his business partner recently brought in a new president/CEO to run the day-to-day as apparently they (the partners) were burned out and wanted to take a step back, though I still have seen a LOT of publicity (starring HIM) for his places, including many TV spots, articles and other media, so I know he’s still very busy.

Lives: In a ‘burb, but as far as ‘burbs go, it’s the closest one to me. I’d definitely go there for him!

Length of Date: 3.5 hours

We Did: Brunch at one of the fanciest old-school restaurants in the downtown-ish area.

He Looked: Cute. Warm, tan pullover sweater, dark wash denim, nice dress shoes, VERY badass glasses!! He’s gotten bald over the years, and had some facial scrub, which looked really nice. He has the warmest smile.

I Looked: Wore my snakeskin dress (the one that Dr. D went nuts over), tall boots and topped it with a black leather bomber jacket. Wore my hair straight. The hostesses at the restaurant made a big deal over the dress, and that was nice.

Convo: So much. So, sooooo much! We covered the gamut, from The Bachelor (he watches and it’s so funny because I rarely watch but had just had a conversation with some girls at work on Friday about the show and had actually turned it on Hulu as I was getting ready for the date!) to the times we’d met previously (he was always working so we’ve met maybe 3 or 4 times in a professional setting…and it was cute because as a chef and restaurant owner it was his schtick to come out of the kitchen and say hello to his guests, but he still pretended to kind of recognize me), but we went from our families to the places we’ve lived and visited to the places we’d like to see…travel, future, our hopes and dreams and what we both want from a relationship standpoint. We agreed to the same thing - we both want a PARTNER - someone who has our backs.

High Point: He’s soooooo endearing! I could have talked with him all day. In fact, I didn’t want the date to end! I think that just feeling that he was interested was the high point for me.

Low Point: One red flag. His best friend is a woman. If it goes much further, I might have to be on high alert about this one, but I don’t know all the details yet.

How It Ended: He’d driven and I’d taken Lyft. We walked out to the front and waited with me until my driver showed up. We hugged a BIG hug (he’s a bit of a big teddy bear and it felt really nice). No kiss, but it would have been awkward and hard to do in that situation. I texted him a thank you from my Lyft, and he texted back about 20 minutes later telling me that he’d been pulled over in the fancy neighborhood closeby for speeding in a construction zone. He told me that he got out of a ticket by telling the officer that he’d just been on “the best date” and that he was excited about it. How cute is that? THEN, he called me at the end of his drive to tell me the same thing!

Chances Are: We’ve tentatively made plans for brunch again next Sunday. I think he would have been very open to seeing me sooner, but I don’t know how crazy it’s going to be at work this week before big trade show. I kind of want to see him sooner. I dig him soooooo much.

Date Rating: I give it an A-. The minus is for the female best friend. I know it’s not fair yet, but…I can’t help but be a tiny bit concerned. I have seen how dangerous a jealous “best friend” can be to a relationship. Gonna try not to worry about it. In fact, I shouldn’t worry about it at all right now, right? I mean, we’ve had ONE DATE. Ok. I’ll shut up now. It was a really great date!
