Tis the season in Life

Dear Gregory,

I am snooping around here more than I have any community since when short.
I am proud of me for this. Way to be a pseudo-extravert.
Looking back, when Compuserve was nearly new it was impossible not to snoop because there wasn’t much else to do. That site was set up to be in each other’s faces.
And when Prodigy was around there was so much color and socialization because we introverted geeks were full of righteous cutting-edge superiority and had finally found our voices. Banding together was almost unavoidable.
Ugh, I miss Prodigy.
It was like a rainbow of goodwill, brain games, and bulletin boardiness.
You can’t truly understand what that means unless you were a P$er because “BBs” of today are very different. …though that may be my silly inner child speaking.
After P$ crapped out things changed and the yen to extend oneself toward strangers went poof.

But I digress.
I have been scoping a handful of the recent posts on Prosebox’s main page each day and found a common theme.
People
Hate
Winter
cold, dark, messy, shivery, slippery, unfriendly, wet winter
Except me, tch.

I am not a fan of ice, no.
But the newness of winter snags me every year.
Snowfall is pretty, and color is punctuated by the white.
Far from feeling like a washed-out world, winter seems to sharpen the senses and force them to better appreciate what we otherwise take environmentally for granted.

Of course were you to talk to me on a day when SAD was biting my butt I might sing a different tune.

I remember CompuServe and Prodigy did you have Eudora

I don't recognize Eudora.
What was it like?

Deleted user Siraka ⋅ February 17, 2019

Eudora was an email service in the early 90s I believe it's named after Eudora Welty

Used to love winter but now I hate it. I remember people being baffled by my loving it.

Why do you hate it? Is it the cold and mess, or is it something less prosaic?

There is something beautiful about winter. The fragility of things so carefully demonstrated by simple snowfall, icy roads, the barren trees, and the need for warmth. The hunger of life to continue against the arching rigor of winter, almost urging us to find solace in the physical strength of close proximity. Body heat providing more warmth to the soul than merely more limber parts. There's also the lovely landscape in the mind of a roaring fireplace and the quiet sanctity of a couch, a blanket, and the fuzzy feelings it all creates.

Plus, I can always add clothes. Can't exactly keep taking them off in the sweltering heat of the summer in my swamp. :D
