Cafuné (noun, Brazilian Portugese) The act of caressing or tenderly running fingers through a loved one’s hair

Michelle was definitely the first girl outside of the one I lost my virginity to in high school to be one I thought I fell in love with. The best I can compare her to and trying not to be a terrible person, but she was the real life version of the Disney princess Pocahontas. (Okay, that and she went as Pocahontas for a Halloween in Madison and I saw pictures and still think about how I could have married a Pocahontas Disney lookalike at Disney World) I will never forget her waist length, sleek, black hair. I had never known anyone to use Mane N Tail as a human hair product until I smelled it in her hair once, and then washed her hair with it in a shower. The feeling was inexplicable; I was captivated, I can close my eyes still to this day and smell Michelle just from the shampoo and from her perfume. Anytime I smell Acqua di Gioia I have flashbacks of making out in her Jeep outside my house by James Madison Park.

Our relationship didn’t last terribly long, but long enough for me to fall in love with her, her to go to Cape Cod for the summer and move on from me and for me to be a drunk puddle and cause resulting drama the next fall she was back. She left and went to vet school and I actually got word from my friend Mason in vet school that she came back to be a part of the dermatology unit at the clinic and there are definite days where I’m like ‘man, I could just show up and fall in love all over again and make the situation supremely great for everyone involved!’ but I can tell you, being sober for 40 days and reminiscing about the past, all I think of when I see this word is running my hands through her hair while she stretched across my lap and smelling shampoo and perfume.
