So our first assignment. Faewren is really smart and I pretty much followed her lead… for a
little while. We were assigned a simple task. A small town about 2 days travel out was having a problem with goblins. They were ambushing the trade route. When I say small town I mean it. There were only 3 buildings! I told Ren that we needed to go to the biggest one cause that’s where the mayor lives. She didn’t think so, said we should go to the inn to see if we can talk to people. Pfft, there wasn’t anyone there but the barkeep. We asked him about the goblins anyway, being as we were there and i asked him about the mayor, he said he was the mayor. He had mentioned that the wares in the shop were terribly low and I asked where the shop was. Guess what, the bar is also the shop! So, my guess is there aren’t any business taxes.... conflict of interest I think. I tried to bring it up but neither Oswald (barkeeps name) nor Ren thought anything of it so I shrugged it off. I asked how many people lived here and he said there were only 5 families and the local economy relies on travelers, which they weren’t getting cause goblins.

We went next door to a temple. I knocked but no one answered. Then I did an awkward opening Of the door where I tried to pull it open and it wouldn’t budge. Turns out you have to push in most doors, I thought it was like a 50/50 thing. I saw a guy on his knees at the alter so I yelled hello and asked him why he didn’t answer the door. Turns out he was praying and I immediately felt kinda bad for interrupting then he told us it was fine and that our kind was welcome there. I think Rem was slightly offended at first but when the priest let down his hood and saw that he was a half orc she said “ah another mut” Turns out it was a temple to Salean (sp?) Goddess of outcasts. We talked a moment about the goblins but he couldn’t tell us anymore than the barkeep/mayor/shopkeeper had. I may look more into this goddess of outcasts later. Maybe religion is something I need in my life.

We went out on the road, to find a bunch of broken carts and things. They had looked pretty rummaged through but I gave it a once over anyway. Sometimes greedy folks miss things so I was just checking. I found nothing. I did see a trail in the nearby woods though so we followed it. Not directly but a little off from the road in the trail in the woods. It wasn’t too long before we cam up on 2 goblin guards. They didn’t look like they were paying attention to anything. There were 2 and one was asleep. I guess the second one took the alone time very seriously because he was jerkin’ his gerkin’. I shot the one while he slept and Ren attacked the other failing to even touch him the first time she tried but we killed him none the less. A quick looting got me a Scimitar. I swapped it my short sword that I don’t really use anyway.

We went further up the trail further and found a shack guarded by 3 more goblins. Killed them, looted them. Was all great fun. Ren knocked on the shack door and no one answered so I kicked the door in. Yup, I didn’t think about opening it as that proved silly last time so I just kicked it. Luckily that worked. i looked around while Ren stayed at the door and I told her I found a thing. She asked if it was dead, how silly, why would a cellar door be dead. Opened that door and there was a ladder going down. So I hollered at Ren and we went in. It was a tunnel illuminated with strange glowing mushrooms. Eventually we came upon a curve and on the other side of that there was light so I quickly peaked my head around and pulled it back quickly upon seeing 4 goblins. Ren thoguht she needed a better look so she stuck her head out after I did… She did see a passage that I had not but the important part I already knew. 4 goblins. We notched arrows and jumped out. During that fight I almost lost my life. Luckily Ren found a drink of sorts on one of the guys we killed. 2 of them had ran off , one of which had a one of her daggers stuck in them, so we had no choice but the chase them. The one with a dagger she had thrown was the one with the healing drink. I had no idea what it was but Ren told me to drink it and I’m sure she doesn’t want me to die. I mean YET. I had struggled with my long sword a bit during that fight and it kinda sucked almost being dead. I caught a table on fire with a wild swing that hit a torch or something. Anyway.... one of the goblins escaped so we followed him down the tunnel.

Eventually the air started to really stink, like rotting stuff, it was gross. We came upon another small room with torches, 2 more goblins, and a piece of wood leaning against a hole in the wall. We killed those guys.... err Ren did, I still couldn’t seem to get a handle on my long sword or my bow. I’m thinking it was first time nervousness (William said I should practice rolling lol). We did n’t see the last goblin that had run from us. I listened really hard at the makeshift door. I put my ear to it and everything, however I didn’t hear any commotion that would indicate a headless goblin body was being lobbed at the door. Ren and I quickly moved to either side of the doorway. A rather large ogre looking zombie think came out. Ren grabbed a torch and lit him on fire. I tried to cut him with my long sword and missed. It was mostly dead after the fire anyway and Ren took it out with one dagger after that. It had been noted that the bodies we had looted so far were sickly and more so the further we got in the cavern until we hit the zombie guy.

We went down the tunnel some more trying to see where the half dead maybe ogre came from. I did not loot it, by the way, cause it kinda melted once it died and was all icky. We came into another small room with an altar and an ugly goblin with a hat. He was staring, so we killed him. he must have been a magic user of some kind but I think maybe that was in his imagination. He flailed his hands at Ren and got up in her face yelling some stuff. Ren cut his fingers off and he tried again. I shot him and then Ren got a good stab and he died. Nothing magic happened. What a failure. I took his hat and put it on. So not I have a Creepy Goblin Headdress now. I’ll try to sell it next chance I get but I put it on. Ren also looted the body and found an amulet. I put it on cause it matches the hat but it made me feel weak and slow so I took it back off. We checked out the alter but couldn’t tell much. Apparently neither one of us had ever seen this before. With this appearing to be the end of the hideout we worked our way back to the outside. I picked up most of my along the way back.

Then we went back to Oswald to let him know we have killed a bunch of Goblins. Apparently i wasn’t paying attention when he was talking earlier because he had offered Ren 2 gold for sets of goblin ears. I thought she just liked to collect them. … her gross collection, her gold.

We went back to the temple too, so I could ask if he could help me, I still didn’t feel good. We asked him about the headdress and he thought it looked silly but other than that it had no meaning to him. Then we asked about the amulet and his face got weird and said that stuff wasn’t welcome here. We told him about how I had put it on and didn’t feel so good and he told us that the amulet bared a symbol of Incabulos some got of disease and decay. He healed me of whatever ailment I had and put the amulet in holy water. It sizzled, bubbled and disintegrated. He also said “It looks like we have a much bigger problem.”

Ren and I went back to the Cleansing Flame to report and get paid. I think they are going to send us back out with a couple more workers BUT i don’t know why the threat of goblins is gone .... we fixed it.
