Name: Super Geek
Introduction Platform: Bumble. I was feeling bluesy about The Scot and didn’t want to get back on Tinder, so I peeked in on Bumble and found this guy…ready and willing to meet quickly! I like that.
Age: 55
Relationship Status: Divorced 5 years and almost a year out of a serious relationship. Moved to [my city] from Manhattan and is just getting used to the different lifestyle. Two adult children living in faraway cities.
Job: EVP of a technology company
Lives: in a town about 45 minutes from my downtown place. He wasn’t sure of the commute so he moved to a place close to his office. Wants to move closer to the downtown area.
Length of Date: 4 hours
We Did: Drinks at a swanky hotel bar close to my place
He Looked: Tall, dark, geeky handsome. He said he was 6’3” and he was actually every bit of that…if not slightly taller (just pleasantly surprised me because most guys lie about their height in their profile). He wore a very nice plaid blazer over a cashmere sweater over a checked woven shirt (nice), jeans, shell-toed Adidas (good touch!), thick black framed glasses. All-in-all, very hiply dressed for such a geek.
I Looked: It was cold and blustery so I showed up in my big, colorful faux fur jacket, jeans, animal print tall boots, light sweater and scarf. I wore my hair stick straight and went easy on the fake lashes (I put some on that were very natural looking), very light makeup.
Convo: Smart-ish. His former career was in book publishing and he’s super book-geeky. We delved into careers, kids, past relationships, local stuff, commutes, city life, New York (and NYT crossword puzzles), France, London, other parts of the world. He told me he was impressed by me.
High Point: Him telling me how impressed he was by me…and he also told me in the very beginning of our date that he wanted to say something a little “out there” while he was completely sober - that he thought I was absolutely gorgeous. And that was so nice to hear!
Low Point: Not sure. I feel like as the early evening progressed (we met at 3:30), I wanted to eat and he didn’t. I’d skipped lunch with the idea that we would get a bite to eat. Nothing wrong with not having dinner, and he was open to it but clearly not INTO the idea, but we just couldn’t get it together to get something to eat. I take that back - we did get some veggie hummus and then drank some more. But I suppose the true low point was at the end of it all, I didn’t feel excited about him…or attracted to him all that much.
How It Ended: He walked me home. That was VERY nice of him. It was a 15 minute walk, so no biggie, but I loved that he did that. We had a peck on the lips at the end…NOT romantic at all.
Chances Are: I’d say 65%. He texted that he’s looking forward to seeing me again, but I think he read into my lack of enthusiasm. Thinking about the whole thing, I’d LIKE to see him again to see if the sparks show up during Date #2.
Date Rating: I’d give it a solid B.
