M10HH Goals Update 1.5.2019 in Health Odyssey

Third day of developing the habits. I’m not sure if I actually progressed today.

1. WAKE UP ON THE 1ST ALARM. It’s Saturday, so I had no alarm. However, I should probably start setting up an alarm for weekends so that I can get into the habit much faster. If I don’t consistently do it, then I might break the habit and slow down my progress significantly, so this one was not successful today either.

2. CHANT 30 MINUTES IN THE MORNING & NIGHT. I actually did this one in the morning, but not at night. I didn’t have time to do it at night because I was concentrated on creating a custom planner for myself. I’m really out of practice with my chanting. I’ve only been chanting 10 minutes a day lately, so doing a whole 30 minutes was almost torturous for me. Usually I would be able to keep my chanting focus longer than that, but because I haven’t chanted longer than 10 minutes, I was struggling to focus. While chanting, I also realized I forgot a lot of my Buddhist concepts, so I better get back to reading Living Buddhism and Introduction to Buddhism. Sensei’s letters and other publications would be really good reads, too.

3. EXERCISE IN THE MORNING. I did say I was going to start this tomorrow. Hopefully I find my phone in the morning so that I can keep track of the steps I’m going to do. My plan is to walk to the park and then back home.

4. BECOME FLEXITARIAN. I’m proud to say that I accomplished this one again today. However, I still need to watch my portion sizes when I’m eating with company.

5. SLEEP MORE. I totally slept in, so this was most likely an unintentional success. Hopefully it’ll be intentional next time.

6. READ A FEW PAGES OF A BOOK EVERYDAY. Did not get the time to read that book. I’m so tempted to stay up all night reading a few pages, but I’ll be too tired to wake up early in the morning for my walk, so I’ll have to wait some other day. Hopefully by tomorrow.

7. ONLY DRINK WATER. I unfortunately did not succeed this one today. When I picked up my youngest sister from Baskin Robins, she bought a Tropical Smoothie, which made me forget about this goal. Why I forgot it? Because I typically ask for a taste when I see something I’ve never tasted before. Note to self: restrain yourself from trying new beverages.

8. DO NOT EAT CANDY. Still a success, but I’m craving some mint flavored gum.

9. PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE AHEAD. I finally bought a planner! Unfortunately, I realized it didn’t fit my lifestyle, so I decided to create my own using Google Sheets. Still haven’t completed it yet, but I’ll have it done soon. I’m excited to use this planner I’m making.

10. WRITE AN ENTRY EVERYDAY. This one is definitely a success because I really do enjoy writing. Ever since I started again, I’m more focused because my thoughts slow down and I can analyze my day enough to see what I need to improve on.

Personal Summary Analysis: I accomplished 4.5/10 of the goals today. The 0.5 is from the chanting I did this morning, but not at night, so I am giving it 0.5 because I didn’t do the other half of the goal. It’s not much, but it’s still progress. I have faith in myself and my abilities, so I definitely will get better.
