Good news! in Letters to my Friend

Dear Friend,

I came home for vacation so I don’t have as much privacy to journal as I want.

So I’ll just be making short, quick entries.

One of my paper has been accepted to be presented at a conference I like. It turns out they’re not even that selective. It’s just that I never had the gut to submit an abstract to their Call for Papers. Many things that happened over the past 6 months have helped build my confidence so much, I’m not as scared of rejections anymore.

It’s not all a story of success, though. Let me not put up a fake show (I know too well about scrolling through social media and feeling bad comparing yourself with other people’s best sides). I submitted 3 abstracts for the last 2 weeks. One is already rejected. One is likely going to be rejected. One is accepted. I’m putting together another abstract for a new conference.

What I want to say about this is, my paper is titled “Friendship in the Modern Democratic State.” The problem that has been noted is in urban modernized environments, people are often lonely. My paper argues that Alexis de Tocqueville has anticipated this and he has a solution to which Aristotle would agree, too. That’s it. The irony of it all is I’m very lonely and friendless myself, and I haven’t a clue about a solution. :)

It’s not all depressing. I’m getting better, but I’ll share in another entry.

Love,
Your fangirl.
