I was going to post this earlier, but I wound up passing out and Geno called 911 when he could barely get me conscious. Got to the hospital around 6pm and within two hours (short time considering our hospital's normal wait times), I was being sedated with IM ketamine (seriously, look that shit up, it's fucking CRAZY!) and once that kicked in, they incised and drained the abscess on the back of my right calf. It was pretty big, about the size of a golf ball and the Dr. told Geno there was A LOT of pus (lovely, no?). I was allowed to go home once I was lucid enough to put together coherent sentences and was steady on my feet. I have to go see my Dr for follow up on Wednesday (was gonna go Tuesday, but with the I&D being done today, no freakin' way I can walk there and back [a total of 30 minutes walking, to the office and back home again], I can do it under good circumstances, but with what I'm going through now with these abscesses, I'm not sure I'll make it even one way, let alone both ways). Just before they started the procedure, while we were waiting for the ketamine to kick in, Dr ET (the other was Dr EP) said I might have to be admitted. I balked at that and said "No way, I do NOT want to be admitted". He said that he'd let me go home this time, but if I show up at the hospital again to have an I&D done or if I've started to go septic, thenhe's going to admit me no matter how much I beg and plead not to admit me. So, hopefully, tits crossed, I don't have to go back in and the abscess that's forming on my right forearm, we maybe just maybe, I can incise and drain it myself at home. I tried doing the one on the back of my right calf, but it was way too deep for my comfort. If they aren't very deep, it doesn't phase me very much, but when it's extremely deep, there's always a risk of nicking a vein, sometimes even an artery, depending on where the abscess is. So, it was better for me to have gone in and get it professionally done. As I said on FB, it hurts now, but at the same time, it feels a LOT better because all the pressure is gone now that it's been drained. The pus and shit isn't all clumped there under the surface (deep under the surface at that), so yeah, now it's just a matter of post-op pain for a couple days rather than the pain from the abscess.
Well, that's all folks. Time to have a smoke, take a painkiller or two, watch the last half hour of Dateline, then try to get some sleep. Goodnight everyone! Sweet (or wet, your choice!) dreams mes cheries!
