NJM18 - 27: Financially Speaking... in These Foolish Things

Woke this morning to phone call after phone call from an unrecognized number at 4:30am (Tuesdays and Thursdays are my mornings to sleep in a little). I was trying to ignore the phone, but they just kept calling and calling.

Finally, my ass was fully awake so I decided to Google. And as I was doing a reverse phone number check, my phone chimed that a message had been left.

Turns out it was a hospital in New Jersey calling for someone who is on call overnight and clearly wasn’t getting the message! It was a call that this person was needed in the emergency room…STAT!

I felt horrible that whoever the hospital was trying to call wasn’t getting the message - clearly they had the wrong number on record, so I decided to call the hospital back to let them know. I mean, what if someone were lying in the ER operating room DYING because of this miscommunication?!

I wasn’t even sure what extension to press when the automated menu came up, so I just pressed the one for “doctors”. They answered and I explained that they were calling someone very, very far away and that whomever they were trying to reach was NOT getting the message.

The woman on the line apologized for calling me in the middle of the night and thanked me for calling and she explained that the person they were trying to reach was a “scrub technician” which, I’m not sure I even know what that is, but it sounded less urgent than ER surgeon, so I was relieved. At least I was confident that the patient was not going to die due to a wrong number!

The day got better from there.

Work was interesting in that I spent all day learning a new product category. My company acquired another company during the last few weeks and guess who’s in charge of the product?? Yes, me…the one on the 45-day Improvement Plan. Does this even make sense???

Here I am, sitting in on meetings with the former owner and most important partners of this particular company, plus our CEO, plus Boss, listening to all of the corporate secrets and involving myself in strategy sessions. Does it sound like they wanna fire me???

Who the fuck knows.

But the biggest news of the day was when The Scot sent me a text telling me that the money he’d pulled from his savings into his debit account had just been transferred…and asked me to guess what it is for…? And followed with all kinds of little dancing, airplane, and heart emojis.

Well, that means The Scot is finalizing his plans to FINALLY book his flight. Does that mean he’s done it? Not to me. It just means he now has the £££ in his account to book his ticket.

So yes, it’s clearly a money thing. He’s also told me that it would have been sooooo much less expensive to do this at any other time of year and that he doesn’t want frills and ‘razz’....he just wants to win my heart.

Which, well, okay. I get it. I get it all. It’s a financial burden to come visit over the holidays, but he’s doing it.

And all of the sudden I got super, super nervous.

Because we are this much closer to this thing actually happening. It’s happening!!!
