Death II in Open Diary Refugee

A close friend of ours died suddenly this morning. He was a "young" guy - about 50 with a son who is only in 2nd grade. His wife called my husband from the hospital and said he had been out cleaning off the car to take their son to school then came in to the bathroom the just keeled over and died. No warning, no pain - nothing. Such a shock.

His mom is still living and his younger brother died some years ago. He was a nice guy, a friend of ours too. Now there's just an older brother left.

My husband has been friends with this guy for 36 years. I've known him for about 34.

It scares me but reminds me that what I wrote yesterday is not just speaking into the wind. Death is at our heels every moment. And, really, when you get to be my age it's actually snapping at your heels. This winter, it has felt extremely close.
