What a title, 'eh?
I call my Boss yesterday as I was doing a plumbing project here at home, and it was going terribly awry. I knew I would need today off from work.
A little back story.
The previous home owner (P.H.O.) thought himself a "Bob Villa" type. This person made major, I mean major renovations to this house and it appears this was done without the aide of an Architect or Engineer. And It seems the previous homeowner did all the work on the fly, off the cuff, without plans, drawings or forethought.
In this house nothing is to code, I am positive about the plumbing aspect since that is my field.
To start, the house was designed and built as a split foyer type house. Upstairs a kitchen, dinning area, living room, two bedrooms, one master suite with attached bathroom, downstairs a large family room with fireplace and half bath, plus a two car garage and laundry room. I beleive all of the downstairs was only a rouogh in at the time of construction as there are so many issues with plumbing, drywall, and everything being out of plumb or square.
Now this previous owner drastically changed the design of the house.
Upstairs is now two small bedroom suites, sleeping room and attached study room. The kitchen and dinning area became one, the two small bedrooms became one. The living room became a large bedroom. THe master bedroom did not change. Downstairs, the two car garage became the kitchen and dinning area which I will admit is nice, but poorly planned and pathetically built. The family room is now the living room.
All of the drywall is hiddiously done, taping is piss poor and mudding is shit.
We are currently doing our own renovations, but we are hiring professionals to correct the mess the previous owner created.
I do a few things that I am comfortable with and capable at doing.
Debbie purchased a lovely custom designed double bowl kitchen sink. It is a rich, bright red color, one bowl deeper and larger than the other. She also ordered a tall faucet with lever control. It all looks awesome.
But as with everything we do here nothing goes as planned.
The stainless sink that was in place was attached with glue and 16 mounting clamps/brackets. Needles to say it was a nightmare to remove. I would never glue a sink in place or use that many mounts.
Once I was removing the mounting brackets I could hear the cabinet moving and see the counter top warping. Now I know why the sink was mounted in a bomb proof fashion, as it was hold things together!
When I braced things and we have cleaned the glue residue off the counter top we try to fit the sink in the opening an dit will not fit because of a riser the P.H.O. installed for the dishwasher connection. After I have cut this down and reconnected the dishwasher the sink drops right in!
Now the hard part. None, I mean none of my waste lines line up or are reusable so I ahve to make a trip to Lowe's. After much measuring and only cutting each pipe once I get it all connected in and thanks be to God, NO LEAKS!
I will post pictures of the sink later as it ROCKS!
So that gets me here.
Today I am off work and it is a good thing. My neck, back and shoulders are sore and achey from where I was laying under the sink so long fighting the damned mounting brakets. Honestly it took almost two hours just to get the sink broken loose, then it took forever to break off the plumbing as the P.H.O. had packed every joint and connection with Plumbers Putty causing the threads to jam!
This morning when I took Maggie outside she bolted about the yard, she was doing her "Zoomies". When I went back to let her in she was on the back porch looking all sheepish like she would say, "I didn't do it". Nothing was wrong, but I heard something that sounded like a steak sizzling on a grill.
ICE!
Ice pellets as fine as sand are falling. There is a light covering on the vehicles out front. The ground is wet and appears nothing is sticking or building up.....yet.
So that is my tale for the day.
I sit here enjoying my coffee with Sugar Free Torani Belgian Cookie Syrup, half & half, and topped with whipping cream. And I am sipping this delicious breakfast from my mostest favorite "Tinkerbell" mug. It is huge holding 16 ounces and has a lovely picture of my beloved Tinkerbell.
It is going to be a lovely day here. I am going to enjoy myself and rest. I will visit with Debbie in her office upstairs. We will play with Maggie and be a family.
I am happy and life is good.
