FIRES in Postcards 4

This is the CAL Fire map here, of the 9 am fire perimeters for the LA fire. My friend Bobbie lives just out of the purple area to the right of that beige road from the 101 to the sea. She tells me that they are ready to evacuate if they have to. The biggest problem is that her next show is all crated and ready to go in the garage. All I can hope is that she calls someone to come and pick it up today.

She lives high in the mountains on a dead end street. Years ago, I suggested she keep an emergency kit near the front door in case of fires. She thanked me yesterday. If they were told to evacuate she had one more thing to grab, and Geoff was bringing two guitars and his computer.

I often wondered what I would do in a situation like this. George, of course. Bottom line, I would save the family pictures. They are all scanned up and backed up on two computers. If I could save meds, clothes, and some of the family paintings, I would do that too.

What would you do if you were told to evacuate. What would you save.

Miss Mage, I know practically nothing about forest fires, but I thought the season of fires was over in Cali. Is this something new?

Take care.

My friend just probably lost her house ( vacation place ) in Paradise. They left with their dogs and photos . Their main house is close to Sacramento . They are there now . She sent me pictures; the smoke is so bad she has to wear a mask to go outside and they live by a river , but the smoke is so thick , she can not see the trees across the river . :-( I am encouraging her to have bug out bags in their car again , but her husband tells her they are safe there. I hope he is right. She sent pictures and it looks terrifying . I am very scared for her. The winds will pick up again tomorrow, I told her to video the contents of the house and get all her important papers together.
What would I take ? My kid and his stuff ( but he has his own car :-) My animals, some clothes, cash , medicines , foods for us and the animals, water, my devices , hygiene things, my Keepsakes of my Grandmother’s , our pictures, my journals, Christmas ornaments and my jewelry. A video of what is in the house for insurance purposes ( and important documents ) and one very old book written by generations of women in my family. Probably my heating pad because my back kills me without it . Amazing how much non- essential stuff you accumulate but think is important. :-( faced with leaving 95 percent of it behind.

It's a question which worries me because if I only had minutes and had to get out fast I don't know what I would grab. Probably cats, devices, diary, meds and bag. But the cats? How could I carry them? I only have one cage and can barely lift it with ONE cat in it never mind two! The worry grows arms and legs. Hopefully I never have to find out.

I would save only those few items belonging to my parents and my dog of course. Everything else is expendable.

We made a fire bag a few years ago.

I hope the fires pass your friend.

I hope the fires spare your friend and her property. What a horrible thing to go through. We had huge fires in BC last summer.
