With my eyes pressed shut, I listen; sounds of the hustling college students fill my ears, as it is move in weekend. Just as the warm, hugging air of summer heads off until the next year, and the cold, crisp air of fall makes its appearance, locals begin their hibernation season. I am one of them, however, I've only been a local here for nearly 4 years. College students bring mischief with them; they fill the streets with their clumsy drunken bodies, and often it is more pleasant just to stay at home than brave the insanity outdoors. In just 4 short years, I've learned and discovered tricks to keep myself sane. Though we only get a short break every summer, the locals here still love the town they call home.

This town won me over, despite of the chaos. There's just something about being nestled between mountains and having the ability to drive just a few short miles and practically be in the middle of nowhere. Just 20 minutes away, there are Amish buggies lining the streets and farm fields that go on for miles and miles. I guess there's just comfort in knowing that there's peace, quiet, and serenity just a couple miles away if I ever need to escape. Besides, it doesn't hurt living where every store or restaurant you would ever need is in a 10-mile radius.

Originally, I'm from flat-lands, so going back home for visits, I kind of feel like an unswaddled baby. Over time you become so used to the constant snuggle of mountains around you, that when you're back in an area where there are no mountains, you can't help but be overwhelmed by the openness.

Soon, the leaves will be changing colors, and the air will feel crisp and cool. Fall is my favorite season, I just love the way it smells and feels, and being around mountains just escalates my love for both the season and the area around me.

When my family asks why I prefer to live here, this is why... I just love where I live. All of the positives severely outweigh the negatives, and besides... College students sometimes provide a little entertainment. ;D
