Name: The Nigerian (his parents were from Nigeria and though he was born in the US, they gave him a distinct Nigerian name)

Age: 41

Status: Single and that’s all I know! Not sure if he’s been married before (doubtful); not sure about kids (also doubtful)!

Lives: In a high-rise condo a few blocks from me

Length of Date: 30 minutes

We Did: I walked to the park that’s next to his building. He came out and met me outside and we talked. I told him I didn’t want to walk home by myself in the dark because there are some unsavory nooks and crannies in those blocks between our homes. He walked me home - even putting his arm around me when we walked past the religious zealots who try to intimidate passers by with yelling and name-calling. The Nigerian was very protective! I liked that. He walked me to my doorstep.

He Looked: Young. Taller than his description of 6’3”. There’s a shocker! Very handsome man, dressed casually in a red polo shirt and khaki shorts. Glasses, nice facial hair. We’re experiencing a heatwave and he was dressed for a walk with me.

I Looked: Summery sundress (with giraffe print) and sandals. Walking the dog.

First Impression: Super, SUPER nice guy. He looked younger than his 41 years and seemed less mature. I even wonder if he’s actually 41! He told me that I didn’t look 50 at all.

Convo: Pleasantries. We didn’t delve deep into our stories because we didn’t have enough time to do so. . We talked about travel for business and pleasure. He travels domestically for work and internationally for fun - about to take a trip around the world. We talked about how long we’d both lived downtown. We talked about the neighborhood. Very surface-y stuff, though I did tell him the circumstances by which I came to find my place (breakup with SexyPants, needing a place to live, STAT).

High Point: Him putting his arm around me

Low Point: We didn’t really have the time for any kind of low point. I’d say I’m not 100% sure there was chemistry, but I’d have to go on a real date to find out.

How It Ended: A hug at my doorstep and goodbye. He walked home. I texted him a thank you after I got in the building.

Chances Are: Maybe. I don’t know if he’ll ask me out again, but I’ll go if he does. I give it a 60% chance.

Date Rating: B…only because it didn’t really feel like a “real” date - it was a walk with a semi-stranger and it went by quickly.

Exactly! Probably should not call this one a date.

Was it designed to be that short?

Ginger Snap Gangleri ⋅ July 18, 2018

No. Maybe. It was a total spur-of-the-moment thing.

Love the sound of the Giraffe dress.
