A few weeks ago I was talking with my parents about wanting to be in a relationship and my dad told me this story of a woman he knows who had been in several bad relationships and she struggled to understand who was right for her. She’d meet guys who seemed right, you know, nice, attentive, fun and funny - all that good stuff, only to find out later that they weren’t right after all.
She asked the universe to give her a sign when she met the right guy and she even got extremely specific, saying that when the right guy came along and used the word “smitten”, she’d know he was the right man for her.
Sure enough, she finally found a great guy who treated her quite well and she was happy with, but still not sure…until he told her he was smitten with her. And then she just knew.
They’ve been married now for something like 10 years and she is beyond happy.
You guys, I know it’s sappy and oh so cheesy, but I loooooved that story. It gave me weird hope to think that the universe showed someone such a clear sign and it worked. I thought and thought about what my word might be…like some kind of unusual word that only my potential new love might say, and I couldn’t think of anything else because “smitten” is such a perfect word to use, in my opinion. It just clicked with me and I would MELT if someone used the word smitten to describe how they were feeling about me.
Cut to last night. My second date with Ricky R (see previous entry for the RAD), and we were once again talking, talking, talking - about things that we like and places to go in town and neighborhoods and such. You guys, he told me that his hobby is restoring Frank Lloyd Wright-type houses! Swoon City!
And then at one point, he turned to me and said…out of the blue…”I looked up the definition of the word “smitten” and it didn’t seem quite right because it is more about being knocked down, when I really think that you are lifting me up”
YOU GUYS. CUE THE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK RIGHT NOW!!
It felt like the world stopped turning for a split second, and I saw him in a whole new light.
And yes, yes, YES I KNOW that we have had only TWO dates now, but my heart did some flips for sure.
And at one point I was looking at him in the dim light and thought about how delicious his lips looked - I couldn’t even hear a word he was saying because I was watching his lips move with such intent!
So of course, we kissed at the end of the date - three times - and each time felt like FIREWORKS.
And this morning we were texting about last night and he sent me this.
So…halp.
