I’m in Perth!

It’s such a nice feeling being here again, as I believe the last time I was here was in 2007, so yeah, eleven years ago.

I arrived REALLY late last night, because for some reason, the flight was delayed a half-hour back home in Brisbane. It was meant to leave at 8:50pm and arrive in Perth at around 12:10ish-am (they are two hours less than the east coast) but the plane didn’t leave until around 9:30pm. Not only that, for whatever reason, we were told that the plane would be going via Melbourne…
Errrm, Melbourne is south lol and I was meant to be heading west. But upon looking at it, Melbourne is slightly west so we were kind of on our way. Apparently it was to do with the weather. I couldn’t understand why we couldn’t fuel up in Brisbane and just head over, but I guess the weather was that bad that the plane couldn’t make it the distance, hence the stopover in Melbourne to fuel up, and then we went across the Great Australian Bight. Such a shame that it was dark because I would have loved to have seen what it was like flying over, as I had a window seat.

I was seated next to a typical farmer, who introduced himself and his mate as he sat down and proceeded to make small talk. It was a nice change from what I’m used to from the city-folk, who pretty much keep to themselves and are so far shoved up the rat-race’s ass that they think they are too good to talk to anyone else. I grew up on a farm a long time ago now (16 years ago I moved out of home now) and it was nice to be reminded of how down to earth farmer’s can be. Of course he was dressed in his King Gees and shirt he’s probably worn for the past 5 years. I had to wonder how filthy my hand was after he shook it lol, as he had the rough, dirty farmer hands also. I asked what kind of farming he did, and he said he grew vegetables, so at least I know his hand hadn’t been up a cow’s arse or anything.

So 2.5 hours to Melbourne and then another 4.5 hours over to Perth. By the time we landed at Perth airport, it was around 3:20am. The cab from the airport and checked into the hotel at just before 4am. Phewie. So much for trying to get rid of this jetlag from Europe! Naturally, I didn’t wake up until well after midday, but I did manage to walk around for an hour or two today in the daylight.

My memory isn’t the best (that’s why I write here) so I’m trying to remember what I saw last time I was here. There’s a lot of inner-city construction going on at the moment, but there still seems to be a lot that I don’t remember from last time. Sunday is meant to be pouring rain all day, but I don’t mind. I’m here to try and relax and get over my jetlag anyway.

The hotel is really nice! Right in the CDB. Small, but clean, cozy and comfortable. A hinge has come off of one of the cupboards that houses the fridge, so I rang reception as soon as I noticed it. He kindly offered if I wanted to change rooms, but I said it was okay, I just don’t want to be blamed for it. He said he’d make a note of it. Bloody better! I’ve just left it open so that I don’t rip it off completely lol.

Let’s see what you got Perth! :)
