Filled the Weekend in These Foolish Things

What started as a weekend where the only things I had planned were the monthly brunch club and a haircut, things sure turned out busy! And it was a gorgeous weekend, to boot!

Remember in my last entry how I said I wanted to pick up the dog, feed her, take her for a quick walk and then go to bed on Friday night? Well. It started out that way, but as we were leaving the building to go for our walk (looking practically ready for bed already), I saw a few neighbors in the little coffee shop/cafe that’s in my building [ed note: normally I am never around when the venue is open because it’s only open during “business” hours, so I was surprised to see my nabes hanging out there]. Turns out, it was the owners of the cafe (who used to live in the building), my next door neighbor, and a couple of other peeps from the building. They were drinking and dishing! And they invited me to join them for an impromptu gathering.

And I wasn’t drinking, but I stayed just to hear the dish. Come to find out, my building is chock full of DRAMA!!! From my OTHER next door neighbor (who has been named “Hoverboard” because he was in some kind of accident and now rolls around on a hoverboard all the time) to a guy they were calling “The Embezzler” for exactly the reasons you can gather from the name to the FBI agents roaming the building to the apartment managers who are simply morons - it’s a crazy, CRAZY movie just waiting to be written!

So, it appears that Hoverboard is a drug dealer! I have a drug dealer next door! He has harassed Matt, my next door neighbor on the other side, soliciting sex and probably other things. I have seen some unusual characters coming in and out of his apartment, but it’s amazing that I haven’t really heard anything coming from Hoverboard’s apartment. He’s lived in the building maybe six or eight months, and yes, he is a bizarre character, but I am shocked to hear that he’s probably dealing drugs over there. I shouldn’t be because Matt had told me about the request for sex a while back and told me to watch out for the dude.

The Embezzler is apparently also a manipulative seducer, getting the adult son of another resident couple’s to move in with him (his father insists he was not gay until this guy came along) and ALSO getting the son to co-sign on several loans, properties and at least one car. Not only that, he apparently did a number on said boyfriend’s parents by telling him he was going to decorate (?) their apartment and instead stole a $40K antique Persian rug?!! He has also purchased an $80 Audi, wrecked it several times and left it in front of a boutique hotel downtown! WTF??

I can’t make this stuff up.

And these are only two of my neighbors! I thought that things would be fine ones the guy with the biting dogs left the building.

Sheesh!

Anyway. It was…interesting information on Friday night. It got to the point where I had to take the dog out for her walk, finally, and then it truly was bedtime! Went to sleep with visions of drug deals taking place next door.

7:15am bootcamp class comes early on Saturday mornings, but I’m glad I do them early and get them out of the way. I also go at 8:20am on Sundays. I will say that I’m somewhat frustrated in that I still have a “tummy” (middle age spread?), but I do notice an improvement in muscle tone since I started doing this class basically at the beginning of the year. I continue to strive for better eating and exercise habits.

Meanwhile, and I know it’s not right to compare, but another neighbor of mine, a dear sweet one, who went to brunch with me on Saturday morning (newbie to our brunch club) is incredibly svelte and muscular. I asked her at brunch what her workout regimen is and she said that she does cardio. And I was like, “That’s IT? But you’re so muscular!”

And she said that it was good genes…and then nibbled away at her salad.

It’s true - the genes make a big difference, but clearly she eats very well too. Guess what? At brunch I picked the same thing that she did to eat! Heh.

Anyway, brunch club was FANTASTIC this month! We had 13 participants for our April brunch, which is about double what we normally have been having. I am just so thrilled that [Athena] and I continue to do our monthly brunches - after three years! Brunch club has turned into something that I’m very proud of and it has become an important part of my life.. It truly is wonderful to gather with girlfriends and talk about whatever the hell we want to talk about and eat and drink together at different happening spots around town. It’s something I look forward to most every month. This time, many friends I didn’t even think would show up, did. It was a blast - even without alcohol, grains or sugar!

Directly after brunch it was off to get a haircut. And style. And that was fun because my stylist is adorable and has opened up to me a lot since I started going to him. He showed me how to create a luscious wave in my hair and it looked really luxurious - especially good because at some point during the day I’d accepted a dinner invitation from Ken and Barbie to meet them and the Opera Singer for dinner and then drinks afterwards (club soda for me!).

After walking the dog again and taking a super quick power nap, I got ready and met Ken, Barbie, The Opera Singer, and another girl, K at a fancy-schmancy restaurant. Of course, there were a limited number of things I could eat, but I suppose I survived on seared scallops (YUM) and some asparagus. Ken bought my dinner and I protested a bit, so he told me I could buy him a drink at the bar upstairs after dinner.

The Opera Singer excused himself for a while but promised he would be back. Even though he didn’t have a show on Saturday night, he’d volunteered to work with a student organization and put on a mini-performance at the opera house. So he left and we went upstairs to another bar where Ken ordered his drink - a fine sipping tequila. When the bill came, I nearly coughed up a lung because his ONE drink cost $50! Look. We’re not in Miami here. Shit! That drink cost more than TWO orders of my scallops!

Meanwhile, I sat demurely sipping on club sodas all night.

A little later we headed to the fancy hotel next door where we proceeded to take photos and find a spot to settle in for a while and chat and drink (more club soda for me…so lots of peeing as well).

At one point, Ken was talking on his phone with Opera Singer after his event, telling him that we’d moved to the next venue and to come meet us, and some guy sat down in Ken’s chair. We told the dude that the seat was taken, and just as he was getting up, Ken tapped the guy on the back and said, “that’s my seat” to which the guy took offense. Before I even knew what was happening, the situation had escalated to “let’s take it outside” level and jackets were being torn off!

Shit!

Meanwhile, Barbie just sat there looking at her phone and pretending that nothing was really happening. I suppose this is not his first MMA challenge to someone. I mean, the guy is outrageously fit and clearly aggressive. It freaked me out quite a bit, but I also figured out quickly that Ken is friends with all of the staff at this venue, so the big guys swooped in and swiftly escorted the other guy to the other side of the place…didn’t kick him out, I guess because he really didn’t do anything wrong except sit in the wrong damn seat.

Double-shit!

And then the Opera Singer showed back up and all settled down. Opera Singer said he wished he’d been there to see the scuffle. I just kind of rolled my eyes and was pretty much over it. Sure, I was having a fun evening, but all of that aggression was annoying to me and I was tired and clearly Opera Singer was too and so after he’d had a drink I told everyone that I was going to call it a night. And the entire crew kind of dispersed after that.

Home and in bed by 1-ish AM!

Sunday morning workout, long dog walk, food prep for the week, and then off to the dog-friendly event that Triple D was helping with. Remember Triple D? He took all over town to many dog-friendly venues - it seemed like a date…and then nothing.

So yeah, he was there, and of course when we saw each other he was all, “Oh! I’ve been SO CRAZY BUSY!!” Which, fine, okay. I get it. You don’t have to tell me how busy you are…you clearly have stuff to do. I don’t know that he was making excuses for not contacting me to do something together or just being oblivious to the fact that we had a really great day together a few weeks ago and then he disappeared.

It’s just the story of my life. I’m not surprised. I’m not even mad. It doesn’t really phase me all that much anymore.

Done with that event and headed home to make some dinner. Started roasting some Brussels sprouts and lo and behold, our dear [Parliament] of OD fame texted me to let me know he was in town and in his rental car…is working close to here for the bulk of this week!

He met me close to my place and we had a wonderful dinner together. We talked life and stuff and PB and OD and it was such a wonderful cap to the busy weekend!

And on my drive home from dinner…did YOU see the stunning Pink Moon last night? It was full and bright and wonderful! The Full Moon in Scorpio! Watch out everyone!

So that’s the recap of the stuff that I did. I should follow this entry with the list of topics about some other stuff that came up more on an emotional level and how I feel about them:

  • They’re just not that into me
  • How it feels like racial tension is ratcheting up even more so than it ever lately (maybe because I’m super close to it these days)
  • More mind, body, soul stuff
  • The ultra depressing podcast I listened to while getting ready to go out on Saturday night
  • Of course, work feelings
  • The list goes on…

  • Better roll now!
