Flowers! in Day by Day

We’re enjoying the color burst of blooming flowers these days, so I thought I’d share some photos with you. My husband grabbed the camera to get some shots of wild parakeets feeding on the black sunflowers. I’ve no idea what he did but he not only did not get photos of the birds, he erased several of the photos of Amaryllis! So all I have left is the shot of his hand holding a nice bunch he picked for me. There’s so much pollen, it fell off on the petals:
Here is the black sunflower. We saved some seeds and made up little seed packets and gave them to the first ten takers.

Lovely flowers. Orchids always seem to exotic to me. I gave the kids one for their anniversary - I have no idea how it will do.

Orchids are hardier than they look. Dappled sunlight is best and inside during your winters.

Easy to build and as the roots grow, they can bust slats out easily.

Gorgeous! I love the spotlight quality of that last shot.
And I had never seen black sunflowers before. Stunning. I remember when we lived in Dorchester, we'd see sunflowers in people's yards, with plastic bags tied around their heads to collect the seeds.

I had a devil of a time taking those pictures. The wind kept spinning then around. Taken very late afternoon...5:30 or so. A friend from Maine gave us the seeds. I passed out 10 packets and asked everyone that if they came up, please share some of those seeds with us. We want to see how many generations we can get out of the original.
Tying plastic bags seems mean to the plant. They turn their heads as the sun moves across the sky. I can only think it stresses the plant. Of course, we pulled our plants as soon as the birds started going after the seeds.

They were new to me. The bee was on the lower half of the round seed pod. He's the same color as the flower and the picture comes out a lot smaller on PB.

I hadn't, either. I hope the seeds off the plants come up. I'd like to see how many generations I can get. :)

Wild parakeets? We don't have wild ones here.
Hope your Mother's Day was good. I have been behind on Prosebox and am trying to get caught up. Just didn't get back in the groove right away after I moved.
