And As for Last Night... 8/31/2003

That afternoon Erin called me again to tell me that she wanted to get girls from our pledge class to come over to her apartment that night so we could pregame before we went out. Lauren had gone home for her little brother’s birthday, Christine and Sara wanted to stay in, and Nicole and Corrine were still at home. Toni said she and Lisa would drive over at 11, but they never showed. So it was just me, Erin, and Ashley. I had two margaritas before I left so I was in a good mood. We met up with Lisa at the club (Toni decided at the last minute she would hang out with other friends) and had fun together. There were a bunch of girls from our sorority that were at the club already…the same ones I didn’t like and won’t acknowledge and vice versa so I kind of stood to the side while my friends chatted with them.

The night was pretty cool…actually it was very good. I got to dance (yay!) and I got hit on by two guys (rock on!!!). I was standing on the stage with Lisa, dancing a little bit when she got hit on by this cute guy so I was off by myself. This guy taps me on the shoulder and introduces himself and we just started talking. I can’t remember his name worth a damn but he’s an engineer who’s a transfer student from SUNY—Buffalo and he’s from Nassau, Long Island. He told me he liked my hair, which is an unusual compliment, but it’s better than the usual “Hey baby wanna fuck?” He was just a nice guy and a pretty good dancer. He held my hand on the way to the bar and offered to buy me a drink…when I refused he offered to get me some water. I just thought that he was really nice and when he asked for my number I actually gave him my real one. It’s after six pm now and I’m really hoping he calls…he was pretty cool. It’s the first time, besides with Jay, that I really liked talking to a guy in a bar. However, unlike with Jay, I think that the guy liked talking to me so he stuck around for awhile. Apparently though, since I am so naïve (or just downright stupid) when it comes to boys, I have no idea about bar etiquette. Like, when is it OK, or expected that you walk away from the person you’re talking to? Since he was holding my hand I assumed he wanted me to follow him into the pool room. But then he said, “Look I gotta go find my friends, I’ll probably call you tomorrow,” and kissed me on my cheek. It wasn’t a big deal, but I felt stupid that I followed him all the way into the pool room. So yea…kind of hoping Mr. Engineer will call…

The rest of the night was basically spent waking around the bar trying to find Erin and Lisa while they walked around trying to find me. I found May and stuck by her since A) I didn’t have my glasses on so I was virtually blind and B) couldn’t find my friends at all. But May got involved into a minor pushing fight with some other drunk chic and May was about two seconds from being thrown out of the bar. So I left and found Erin and Lisa, who were picked up by two hot guys about ten seconds after I found them. So now I’m standing by myself once again, ready to leave, when some really cute guy once again taps me on the shoulder and asks, “Hey wanna dance?” Now, to many girls, getting picked up by a guy (or guys) in a bar is no big thing, but I’m virtually invisible to boys. I’m the quiet nerdy friend that everyone goes to for advice or who’s asked by a guy to introduce him to my friends. I might’ve given out my phone number for a second time that night but Erin wanted to leave and I had to tell the guy “No, I’m about to go…” And he was a good-looking guy too…I’ve decided that the next time that happens, I’m gonna go with my gut instead of my friends. I mean, how many times have my friends ditched me so they could talk to a guy? I mean, it’s not done maliciously, but they do it…And besides, it probably took him some guts to go up to a random girl and ask that…So yeah…it was a good night. Erin spent the walk home complaining how she tried to make her ex-boyfriend Dave jealous that night but she wasn’t sure if it worked and that she was pissed off that he was with other girls that night…I was only half listening…I was in such a good mood…
