Some Days, right? in Book Five: Working Through the Maze 2018

Today was going to be a stupid day no matter what.
I had to be awake and out the door before 6:30 a.m. because I had to drive 130 miles (Waukee to IA City) for a client’s hearing. The kid is a Habitual Offender, Chinese Student… so Chinese Boss is freaking about deportation and I can’t help think habitual offender should get him deported.
After that, I had to drive 130 miles (IA City to Ames) for a client meeting. The kid keeps getting picked up for the same thing… also has habitual offender status… is also a Chinese Student… so Chinese Boss is freaking about deportation.
After that, I had to drive 40 miles to get back to the Des Moines Office to speak with my bosses about how I’m not doing as well as they’d like me to. Oh… what is it this time? Apparently, these bosses are so “organized” and “on top of things” that they want to chide me on January 18, 2018 for something that happened in October of 2017. And it is a really stupid thing on top of it all. THE VERY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “Defense Lawyer” and “Working for the Chinese.”

When you are convicted of an OWI, you are required to attend classes. The judge can also require you to do just about whatever the judge wishes and put it into an order. The Written Plea of Guilty I filed in October said, “Client will attend the 48 Hour OWI course.” Judge, unbeknownst to me, added an IDOT course as well. DEFENSE ATTORNEY is finished after the sentence comes out. It is up to the defendant to (try to) be a responsible adult and take care of their shit in regards to that sentence. Chinese Boss thinks Chinese Students should get as much hand holding as we can possibly manage. So I had to call and set up his 48 Hour Course. Chinese Boss, who received a copy of the Sentencing Order, and Client, who received a copy of the Sentencing Order, both failed to see that there was an additional IDOT course required. WHEN I CAUGHT IT (admittedly in December), I brought it to Chinese Boss’ attention. She said she would contact the client. Now she wants to yell at me because the IDOT course was never set up. Y’know what? This kid has been attending College in the United States for two years. If he still can’t read the language, he certainly knows someone on campus that can help him. If he isn’t a responsible enough person to follow up/follow through with his own sentencing… that’s on him. Being someone’s mother was not in the job description.

Officially… I am too exhausted to write anything else. Like… for the rest of the day. A long day with over 300 miles driving.... and more work in the office… and more work tomorrow including 2 Juvenile Hearings.... yeah. Me go away now.

Ugh...so painful to watch juveniles being so helpless and stupid, and especially the assholes who mollycoddle them!

Deportation seems fair for him. We don’t need him .
