Just watched a TED talk by Emilie Wapnick called “Why some of us don’t have one true calling”. It opened up an interesting concept of looking at my life and my interests.
A couple of hours ago I was sitting in a cafe with a sole purpose of defining what is my definition of success and what I truly want in life. As I sat there in front of a blank page for an hour or so I got more and more frustrated, more and more concerned about my life. If I can’t answer a question “What would I do if I didn’t have to work?”, how can I define my purpose.
The talk by Emilie Wapnick helped me a little bit. It gave me some peace of mind. I thought of listing all the things that I’ve done and was passionate about even if it didn’t last.
Here it goes…
- Game designer. I actually developed 2 video games and 1 board game and gave a small talk about game design during an un-conference.
- Nail artist. This one being one of my longest passions, for around 2 years. I got around 2500 followers on IG for my nail art account. Really enjoyed it, it was an amazing creative journey.
- Blogger. I’ve been blogging here and there on different topics.
- Web designer. I’ve designed and created quite a few websites, all of them for my personal use. Most of them using old school tools requiring coding and backend setup.
- Video editor and youtuber. Going back to my nail art, I’ve been editing quite a few videos for my YouTube channel, which later led me to record and edit some educational work-related videos.
- Artist. This includes so many categories thoughout the years, that I’ll have to list them one by one: colored pencil artist, watercolor artist, acrilic paint artist, mixed media artist, digital artist.
- Graphic designer. I’ve developed a lot of various logos and brand materials for so many occasions that it requires a separate denomination.
- Entrepreneur. My love for nail art led me to opening a small business which I understood is not something I want to dive in to too much, but it was a great experience nevertheless.
- Gamer. This stayed with me for years and seems to never let go, which I’m quite happy about. I love games and will keep loving them.
- Teacher. It been a long time since I realized that I can teach people effectively, that’s why I think I ended up in a teacher-like job, even if it’s not exactly regular teacher job.
- Polyglot. I do speak three languages with some basic knowledge of the forth language and I feel that if I dedicate more time into it I’ll be able to achieve more.
I’ll stop it here for now while I try to re-access my life.
