The Storm Before the Calm in Everyday Ramblings

This is some trash left by some folks living rough nearby. There is a lot of homeless activity near this unattended parking lot right up next to the freeway that borders downtown. Cars get broken into here on a regular basis. I walk through here almost every day.

I am sleeping enough but I am still waking up tired and am finding it a bit more difficult to adjust to the dark short days and all the rain. We still have 9 days to go in November and we have already hit our average rainfall target so I am not imagining that it is wetter than it normally is.

We had a few bumps with the work computer upgrade and today was all about helping people adjust to the new screens and links and changes. I was dismayed when Saint Joe emailed me this morning to say his wife had badly damaged her ankle and couldn’t walk and he needed to take the day off to get her situated with what she needed. Luckily it wasn’t a break but it was a bad sprain.

I feel bad for them with the holiday coming up. They’ll be having a quiet one.

There was a lot of stuff coming at me that I needed to handle on my own, as we have no backup.

I got through it but am less than thrilled at the prospect of getting the 5,000 steps I need to hit my daily step goal today.

On top of that I am righteously sore all over as I taught some new material yesterday in both my classes. I was very proud of the evening class; they worked hard. One of my students (who had taken a fall the week before) this week had stitches in her shin (Ow!) from being kicked accidentally by a booted young relative and so I needed to modify and keep us off our bellies and knees.

We were working the side abdominals, those big muscles that protect our lower backs and stabilize the position of our pelvis as we move through the world.

I tell you if I was a man in the western world these days I would ditch the bathrobe, unless I had on some full coverage pajamas underneath. I understand the cover of next week’s New Yorker is going to be an older white man exposing himself (in a bathrobe) to a Thanksgiving Parade Balloon.

These revelations, this reckoning of sexual harassment and violence, are mind numbing and nausea inducing. I am so Me Too but never thought I would see any sort of consequences in my lifetime. It makes me hope that Miss E. will have an easier time of it professionally and personally.

She’s going to San Francisco with her mother for Christmas. I hope they have a blast. I am a bit jealous. Just a bit.

One more day of work this week for me. I am taking Friday off. Saint Joe swears he will be back tomorrow. So it should be an easier day and I am teaching a nice stretchy restorative class in the evening.

And then I rest. And try to think happy thoughts. And not eat too much.

Ha!
