Well. I never saw Steve McQueen last night and I guess that’s…okay?

I mean, his mom is 83 and was having heart issues happening yesterday. She has a pacemaker and other stuff. Her husband was there but SMcQ was the guy who showed up and took charge, and of course that’s what his mom needed, so it was clearly not in the cards for us to go out.

The only thing that gave me pause was when we were talking about the whole thing this morning (I had just gotten into the office and he was driving to a location a few hours away) was that I’d asked about the whole thing, and he was telling me the story and when he got to the part where his mom was telling him that it was OK and that he could go, he kept saying, “I had nothing else going on, so I wanted to stay with my mom…”

Which, um.

You had nothing else going on?

I get it, your mom was in a somewhat life-threatening situation and OF COURSE you are going to stay with her, but to tell the person you’d made PLANS with and then broke because of this emergency that your plans with them were “nothing else”…?

I didn’t say anything, of course, but my heart sank ever so slightly.

Guess what? Steve McQueen is human after all. And yes, he did say that he was sorry that we couldn’t see each other and I’m sure he didn’t mean it in the way that I heard it, but you guys, he didn’t make any solid plans to make this up and to see me.

So. Looks like we’ll be keeping this one very, very casual.

Time to take myself out to dinner again, it seems.

With that, I’m off to live my glorious life some more.

xox,
