We live on a short and narrow curvy road that stretches from a more busy part of Jamaica Plain up to the entrance of a cemetery. It’s a quiet and private place to live in an otherwise bustling part of a big city and I’m grateful that I was able to find this house with a little bit of solitude. But this time of year, sometimes I wish we didn’t live so close to a cemetery.

What is it with cemeteries and Halloween anyway? This cemetery in particular is beautifully landscaped and filled with public art displays. It’s a tourist attraction to people visiting the city. I like to take walks through the area and it’s peaceful and beautiful like a good cemetery ought to be. Why do some people want to associate it with something scary or creepy?

In other news, it’s apple picking season and we wouldn’t be good New Englanders if we didn’t go out and pick apples, drink cider, and buy fresh corn. So that’s the plan for this weekend. Olsen plus current boyfriend will be there. I haven’t met him yet. But if he loves autumn in the part of the country that will be a good way for him to earn points with me.
