Counseling and (yet another) Orientation 7/15/2002

I came back from my Binghamton orientation last night. I went up on Friday morning. I had to leave my house by 6 am, which means I got up at four. It definitely sucked. I was in Binghamton by two and I had checked in by two-thirty. I threw my bags in my room that I was assigned to. My roommate for the next 24 hours wasn't there. I found out that her name was Malini. (Pronounced Mal-eenie). Anyway I stayed in my room until about four when we had to go to general orientation and stuff.

It was then I found out that my travel plans were going to get royally f**ked up. My bus was going to leave at 2:10 the next day, Saturday, but I had to register for classes at 2:45. The orientation ended at four on Saturday, but since the 2:10 bus was the last bus to be going to my hometown, I figured I could register earlier than everyone else or something. Yeah, right. So I was informed that I either had to miss my bus and register at 2:45, or not register at all, and this whole trip would've been a huge waste of time. I called my mother and left a message about my screwed up travel plans and then left with my orientation group to go to a picnic. I started talking to this girl who was in my group. BEAUTIFUL girl. She was the epitome of what I wanted to be. Just a casual kind of stunning, self-assured, but very sweet. I went to look at her name tag and noticed that it said 'Malini." I told her that I was her roommate and we started talking a bit more. She went to two schools in Brooklyn in two years, and is transferring with the same amount of credits as me. But anyway...

We went to the Harpur Arts and Sciences Orientation together. I had to stay after to ask one of the professors a question so I said to Malini, "Oh, you don't have to wait. I'll be a little while, so you can go back without me." And she says, "But you're my rommate! Of course I'll wait for you!" Just a very sweet person...

So then we headed off to Late-Nite Binghamton. Late-Nite Binghamton offers kareoke, video games, food and snacks, pool, bowling, board games, etc at the student union. We hung out there playing some video racing game when this guy came along. I played with him, and then he left. Another guy came along and asked to play. I let Malini play against this guy and they got into this whole conversation. They were both from Brooklyn, and knew a lot of the same hang-outs. Anyway, Malini and I wandered off to play laser tag, but we were informed we needed four people to play. So we found Brooklyn Guy, who either randomly asked another guy, or asked one of his friends if he could be our fourth. The boys beat our asses and we went off to play pool. Brroklyn Guy grabbed Malini as his partner. I really liked The Fourth, but I don't think he liked me too much. He was polite and all, but definitely no interest in me. But that's another story...

We went off to play bowling, which I can't do to save my life. Malini was pretty bad too, so I felt slightly better. When playing pool, I was pretty much the only one who was doing crappy. Brooklyn Guy was giving Malini tips on where/how to hit the ball, but when I asked The Fourth for advice, he shrugged his shoulders and basically said, "Do whatever you want." Malini was wearing flip-flops, and in order for her to rent bowling shoes, she needed socks. Brooklyn Guy actually went back to his dorm to get her a pair of socks so she could bowl. Its crazy how lucky some girls are. Some have guys trekking back to their dorms on an unfamiliar campus to get socks for some strange girl, and I can't even get a guy to be interested in me. Amazing...

We had to be back in the dorms by 10 pm because we had to start drafting schedules and back-up schedules. The Fourth lived in the same dorm and on the same floor as Malini and I, but on the adjacent wing. He barely said good-night and disappeared into the dorm. Brooklyn Guy on the other hand asked to come to our room and make his schedule with us. He also got Malini's cell phone number, "just in case he got locked out of the dorm or something." Anyway, I will admit that Brooklyn Guy was nice to me. He hung out in our room while we made schedules and ended up sleeping in Malini's bed. It was 2 am when I fell asleep and they were still talking. Malini swore that they didn't do anything. I don't really care, just as long they weren't having sex in front of me or anything. I guess I was just sad and envious. It must be nice to be able to attract a guy that quickly.

Malini and I went to take our ID photos together. Hers came out great; mine came out making me look like I had a facial deformity.:Sigh:: It's just an ID though. At breakfast I met her mother. Very conservative woman. He first marriage was actually an arranged marriage. I thought it was entertaining that she produced a daughter who was a self-confessed 'nymphomaniac.' (Malini never had a roommate before, but I've had three. I was teling her about Linda during our picnice dinner the night before. One of my main problems with Linda was a minor nympho and would randomly kind of force me out of our room. Malini laughed when I told her that and said, "Yeah, I went through a nympho stage." I just thought it was funny, with her family background and all).
