Name: Steve McQueen
Age: 56
Status: Divorced, but I’m not sure for how long. Not sure if it’s recent, but doesn’t really seem to be. Has 3 nearly-grown kids (youngest is 18, oldest is 21, two boys and a girl). No pets, though his ex is a veterinarian.
Job: “Several irons in the fire.” The most recent project that he left in January is super high-profile, so there’s no way I can write it out here, but he’s so wonderfully smart without being a nerd. Is a Lawyer AND a Nuclear Engineer, among many other things. How about that?!
Lives: Fancy neighborhood - within walking distance of the restaurant where we met.
Length of Date: 4 hours
We Did: He picked me up at my place and took me to a really hip lounge that I’ve been meaning to try but also have forgotten about because it’s not really close to my place. He was driving his son’s big SUV because they’d switched cars for some reason (that I think has to do with school starting today or something). We had drinks and dinner and I chatter-boxed the whole time (nervous much?). I hope, hope, hope I didn’t talk too much, but I could feel myself just going on and on. I was trying to impress him and kept telling myself in my head to stop, but I couldn’t! Luckily, I also tried to ask him lots of questions about himself, though they weren’t quite the ones that would be super helpful in determining if we were compatible. Aaack! I felt like I was on a high-speed train! But it was a really awesome ride!
He Looked: Handsome. In the daylight (he met me at the door of my apartment), he looks every bit of 56, which, you know, is totally age-appropriate, but he also looked like the CEO of a company - you know what I’m saying? He looked like a handsome business man - the kind that can intimidate in important business meetings! He was casual, in jeans and a nice gingham collared shirt and v nice loafers. A little less Steve McQueen-y than the night we met, but still absolutely attractive. I’m still calling him Steve McQueen, for sure!
I Looked: Well. I had one super cute outfit on, and then he called to tell me he’d be a little later than 7pm and told me that it was casual, casual. I texted a photo of myself to Cindy, who was asking me what I was wearing, and she told me that I was too dressy! So I changed into my standby flowy floral printed handkerchief skirt and a tank top and flat sandals. Not my favorite, but she thought it looked more appropriate. However, the place where he took me was hipper (is that a word?) than casual, and I wish I’d kept on my dressier dress. In the end, I think it was fine. In the end, he was about 2 inches taller than me in my flats, which means that I can wear heels in the future!
First Impression: I’d met him on Wednesday night, so that was my first impression (and it was a fantastic first impression, I might add), but THIS was officially our first date, so…
Convo: See above, what we did. I chattered. He listened and chimed in and our conversation was non-stop from start to finish! I do wish I’d gotten more clarity around what he’s looking for. Does he want a girlfriend? Someone to date casually? A fuck buddy? A new wife? A friend? Definitely not a friend…but what?
High Point: First of all, SO impressed by the fact that he has been extremely communicative with regards to our meeting, going out and just general checking in. He’s chivalrous and polite! So funny, this is exactly how Jingle Writer was, however, I’m super happy when SMcQ calls and I love hearing him talk on the phone - even his voice mails make my heart flutter. THIS is chemistry - at least on my part.
Low Point: Okay, this is so…bitchy-critical? But I gotta be honest: Dad Jeans. This is easily fixed.
How It Ended: After dinner and awesome live music (a duo on the keyboards and the bass), we noticed that we were the very last people in the joint - JUST like on Wednesday night when we met. So he drove me home and got out of his side of the car to walk me to the door. We were laughing about something, I can’t even remember and he kind of swung me around in such a way that my arms wrapped alllllll the way around his neck and we were holding each other so tightly, face-to-face, that a kiss was absolutely inevitable. And as we were saying goodbye, he did the same thing two more times, with the kiss in the middle being extremely sexy. I liked it very, very much.
Chances Are: I hope, I hope. We didn’t talk about next time, but he did text me when he got home thanking me, and I texted him back telling him that I was impressed and I thanked him and then he sent me a cryptic text about “going forward…”
Date Rating: A solid A. Solid.
