This poem was requested a little while ago and might go prose on me before it’s over and done with. I have been conceptualizing it for a few weeks now and think I’m ready to write it.

To Cut a Friend So Deep
To speak would betray you
Saying nothing would let you die –
Drawing blood from your arms,
Drawing blood from your soul,
The fires inside
Can’t escape from the pierce of the blade,
Now hot instead of it’s usual cold.

Would a friendship sacrifice
Be worth returning you to the living?
Would just talking suffice
Or are there deeper things brimming?

I love you as a friend
And cherish what we have –
The continuance of your letting
Merely confirms that you are mad.

Talk to me,
Confide honestly –
Speak-out willingly
Understand my compassion.
