Eclipse, Stress, and Hope for Tomorrow in Day by Day

Some people travel the world to view an eclipse. I saw a partial solar eclipse in the early 60s and don’t feel the need to watch again, except on TV. There won’t be much to watch in FL anyway. We’re in a prenumbra area (partial coverage of about 80%). I love watching lunar eclipses. It’s dark, it’s quiet, and it’s a very private experience.

Baby Blue (my T-bird) is in the car hospital. They think it’s a timing chain. No idea what it will cost. They’re supposed to call back later today.

I talked to FL Blue on the 11th to ensure that my Medicare coverage would kick in seamlessly on October 1st. Atrisha assured me that my current coverage would cease on Sept 30th, 2017 (note the year) and Medicare would kick in the next day. But when I went for my flu shot on Saturday, the record showed that my coverage cancelled on Sept 30 2016 (LAST YEAR), which could not be right because they paid two claims recently and they’ve happily deducted my monthly premium each month over the past year. Ruth assures me they’re “fixing it” by Friday. Please pray that nothing goes wrong before Friday. Like I don’t self-combust from stress or something.

I submitted an application for a $20K grant for the non-profit I’m running. If I can get it, I can help approximately 25 young adults AND it will allow us to expand our base to under-served groups, such as the LGBTQ community and those who are graduating drug abuse programs. They’ll let me know in September if our group is being considered. Cross yer fingers.

Fingers, legs, and eyes crossed! Seriously, good luck with the grant! Your plans for the eclipse are the same as mine - tv. I think ours is 87% here. And, yeah, me, too for the lunar eclipses; I'm usually the only one out watching, but it's like a private moment shared with the universe.

ConnieK Eriu ⋅ August 22, 2017

YES!!! I feel a tiny part of the universe during a solar eclipse. Thanks for all the good vibes. Much love to you!

GypsyWynd August 22, 2017

Don't get me started on FL Blue!!
I'm not sure wr're going to see any of the eclipse......it's thundering out right now.

ConnieK GypsyWynd ⋅ August 22, 2017

No storms here. It feels like late afternoon. I'm pointing the camera at the sky and keeping my eyes averted as I click. So far, I got a whole bunch of nothin'. LOL!

GypsyWynd ConnieK ⋅ August 22, 2017

I went outside (didn't look at the sun, of course) during the time we were supposed to be getting our % of the eclipse. The breeze was cooler, the shadows were longer, and the sunlight seemed different. But it wasn't really dark or anything. Still, I can say I was there. (we watched the rest of it on TV)

ConnieK GypsyWynd ⋅ August 22, 2017

That's pretty much what I had here. I kept pointing the camera to the sun, snapping and then looking at the picture. I couldn't see that ANY part was covered but the shadows did get longer and it seemed later in the day.

All my toes and fingers and all that are crossed for you, too! I hope everything is settled.

Gracious, so you name your cars, too?

ConnieK Reading_Blankie 📚 ⋅ August 22, 2017

Thanks! I've ALWAYS named my cars. LOL!

Reading_Blankie 📚 ConnieK ⋅ August 22, 2017

my last car was named stitch. :) My hubby's car doesn't have one though.
I guess it runs in our family because my grandmother named her last car Bambi. "

ConnieK Reading_Blankie 📚 ⋅ August 22, 2017

My mother's cars were always named "Betsy". :)

We live in the totality path and I'm excited to share that we laid on our driveway with our approved glasses and saw the WHOLE thing. The girls were in awe! Best experience of my entire life.

Crossing all body parts that your health insurance is taken care of AND you get the 25k grant. Woot woot

ConnieK Chic Chat ⋅ August 22, 2017

You are SO wonderful. Have I told you that lately? I love that you protect your girls but do things together. And thanks so much for the encouragement!

woman in the moon August 22, 2017

Good luck with the grant.

ConnieK woman in the moon ⋅ August 22, 2017

Thanks. I'll know in September.

Crossing everything! Good luck, and thank you for all your good works!

Decades ago I was on the centerline for a total solar eclipse and it was wild. Today M and I watched the NASA livestream. I got a kick out of the joy experienced by astronauts who have spent time in orbit, for whom this was their first total eclipse. There was some great footage from the ISS showing the moon's shadow falling on the Earth.

I agree with you about total lunar eclipses. Back in 2010 a total lunar eclipse fell on the winter solstice. I spent the night on my driveway, took 89 photos, and stitched them together into this video (5:43):

Fingers crossed for insurance fixes, too! I had one of those SNAFUs three years ago, smack dab in the middle of chemo. (Nothing quite like getting a statement showing about $10K for a week's worth of treatment and the repeated message, "Claim denied.") Turned out both M and I had been dropped accidentally at the turn of their fiscal year. We got it all fixed -- customer service spent over an hour on the phone with me fixing claim after claim after claim. But thank goodness for paper trails and pre-phone call power music to get me pumped up, just in case I needed to be extra assertive.

Sometimes I think dealing with the medical billing is worse than treatment itself. They never seem to make a mistake on collecting the premium, though. Cool link. Thanks!

a mote, floating ConnieK ⋅ August 23, 2017

Thanks -- Glad you enjoyed!

QueenSuzu August 22, 2017

Yikes about the insurance snafu as if you needed any more stress! Hoping the grant comes thru and you can continue on with helping those under-served groups.

ConnieK QueenSuzu ⋅ August 22, 2017

Thanks. And yes, the insurance mess IS stressful.

Marg August 23, 2017

All fingers crossed for the grant - that would be brilliant if you got it!

ConnieK Marg ⋅ August 23, 2017

Thanks!

Shattered August 23, 2017

Fingers crossed!!

ConnieK Shattered ⋅ August 23, 2017

Thanks!

Wranglingal August 23, 2017

I had the best experience of watching the Total Eclipse here in Casper, Wyoming, it was so worth every bit of the SUN/MOON. IT a story to tell.
I am also dealing with my insurance also as I moved from Texas to Wyoming, its been a super PAIN in the ass to make calls every day to get it solved!!
SO far as of today I am now finally good, but my concern is when it changes again in October, I hope I don't get it all messed up!
My fingers will be crossed. I hope you will get the great news!! Thanks for helping OTHERS!! For giving them a chance too!!

ConnieK Wranglingal ⋅ August 23, 2017

Everybody deserves a second chance. :) Casper was right in the line of totality, wasn't it? FL was so far off, it was a non-event here. My COMPLETE sympathies on the insurance. It's worse than getting sick!

WildflowerHeart August 23, 2017

i got to see the eclipse live and it was really cool. I wouldn't travel 100s of miles for one, but it was an amazing experience.

Fingers crossed on the grant!

ConnieK WildflowerHeart ⋅ August 23, 2017

Oh, that's neat that you got to see it! And thanks. :)
