The worst is waiting in Interactions with others, the good, bad, and ugly

He’s done this before - but perhaps never quite like this. Yes, he is ALWAYS late. Ok, maybe not always, but 80% of the time. I should be used to it (and presume it) by now.

But this is a new low… normally he at least calls or texts about the time he is supposed to be here, or a little before, to let me know that he’s late. Yesterday he said “about 1pm…” At 12:30pm, I texted asking for his status and/or ETA… and no response.

Now, it’s 1:35pm, and I still have not heard any word! I just called and left a message on his voicemail (he didn’t answer his phone). Could he have forgotten his phone at home?

Today the plan was to go to a festival a few blocks from my house. For him, though, it is a journey from NJ. Normally he takes the trains, which often turns into a fiasco. Sometimes he leaves late and misses the train he planned on taking. Sometimes the train runs late, and he misses a connecting train, delaying him up to an hour! I often wonder why he doesn’t just drive - but parking around here is rather difficult… so I sort of understand.

Still, here I am left waiting, not knowing if/when he will be here. Sometimes he cancels last minute, but that is if he is not feeling well. And he normally (almost always) gives me many hours notice for that.

This is definitely different - normally there is some word. I’m not quite sure what to do… I did want to go to the festival. and we were planning to have food there. It’s now 1:45pm, and I could use a bite to eat. Maybe I’ll have a yogurt to tide me over? I hate waiting.

Based on the trains, he would’ve gotten here either 1-1:10pm, next one around 2:15pm, and if he missed that one, the next is 3pm. Considering the festival is only supposed to go until 4pm.... This is turning into a stressful day! Where is he?! Obviously he did not make the train getting him here at 1:10pm....

The train that would get here at about 3pm, leaves on the other side at 1:51pm. Maybe he is waiting until he is on that train and on his way to call me?

The last time I saw him (he came down to me), he originally said that he would come down on Saturday, and not too late (meaning around 5pm). At 1pm he calls to say he isn’t feeling well, and could we reschedule until the following day. On Sunday, at about 5:30pm he texts, saying he had an issue at home, and that he is on his way. He said he would get to me around 7pm. Something happened and he missed his connection. He didn’t actually get to me until 8:30pm. Our plan was to order in dinner… which we didn’t eat until 9:30pm. :( And then he had to leave around 11:15pm to catch his train back home.

As it turns out, he actually missed that train! He spent the night in the train station (he didn’t tell me until the following day). He is a mess.

Sometimes him being a mess is ok, and it makes for some interesting stories. However, when he is late and I have no idea where he is (like right now), it is just stressful. And if he DOES have his phone with him, it is now just inconsiderate!

Ok, it looks like according to the train’s website that the 1:51pm train has departed the station. I guess I’ll give him 5min and then call or text again?

It’s a nice day out, and there is a festival outside. And I’m home waiting....
